What's the best starter Pokemon for Diamond Version?

  1. Is it Piplup-Prinplup-Empoleon, Turtwig-Grotle-Torterra, or Chimchar-Monferno-Inferape.

  1. There is no real best, it just depends on what you're looking for.

Infernape is incredibly fast and hits like a truck both Physically and Specially, but can't take hits very well due to poor defenses. His typing is great and his selection of super powerful moves (as well as access to both Swords Dance and Nasty Plot) make him one of the best wall breakers.

Torterra is very slow but also very defensive, good at soaking up hits. His offensive prowess extends toward the Physical side, and Grass/Ground typing is pretty nice and provides some nice physical moves for him to blast through things with.

Empoleon is kind of a balance between the two, his defenses as well as his half-Steel typing providing a fair bit of defense, but at the same time he's no slouch in the Special attacking department. His moves won't have the sheer power of Infernape's, but he's gonna be harder to take down.

You can also consider finding other Pokemon of their type. Fire-types are a little scarce, but Ponyta appears really early, and Magmar appears later. Grass-types are also a little scarce, but Budew appears immediately, and so does its happiness-evolution Roselia once you advance a couple routes. Water-types are of course incredibly abundant, with Magikarp & Buizel available pretty much right after the first Gym.

The choice is yours. All three are excellent, quite possibly the best set of starters so far. I picked Infernape, but your mileage may vary. Due note that if you do pick Chimchar, catch a Budew for the first gym.
