There is an event coded into this game in Ilex Forest. If you bring a specific Shiny Pichu there that was distributed back in 2010, you can go to the shrine in the forest and find a Spiky-Eared Pichu. This is a reference to the Pokemon movie Arceus and the Jewel of Life in which you can see a Shiny Pichu befriend a unique Spiky-Eared Pichu. This Spiky-Eared Pichu can understandably not be traded to Pokemon Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum as the event hadn't even been conceived then. However, what is more confusing and as-of-yet unknown is why the Spiky-Eared Pichu cannot be brought to Pokemon Black/White, later-released Pokemon games, and even more confusing as to why Pokemon Black/White 2 cannot have it, for there was ample time for it be coded in between 2010 and 2012. This makes the Spiky-Eared Pichu the only one Pokemon from the DS era that cannot be brought to the 3DS games.
