Confused with attack and sp.attck?
In the help of fire red and leaf green versions it was said that
All Steel, ground , bug ,poison, normal , ghost, rock and flying moves are physical attacks
and all water, fire ,grass , dragon, electric, dark , Ice moves are sp.attck
In the 3rd gen, special and physical attack depended on the type of the move. It didnt matter if the move is a contact move or not.
So is it same for the 5th gen to.
Explain me with an example question:
Is hyper beam a physical move or a special move?(it was physical in the 3rd gen) chaosefat - 6 years ago
@ JakkDude. I know that. But........... How will I know which move is physical and which move is special. chaosefat - 6 years ago
But hyper beam may be a beam but it is normal type move. OR maybe the system of sp.att and physical attack has been changed. chaosefat - 6 years ago
Thankx Bearmen this is the kind of answer I was looking for. chaosefat - 6 years ago
I always thought the same thing chaosefat, in mystery dungeon it was similar. However, in B&W, attack & Sp. attack moves are determined by if the move is physical, or if it's special.
Eg. In mystery dungeon grass moves are sp. attack regardless of if they're physical or special. HOWEVER, Leaf Blade is a physical move and therefor it's damage is determined via attack. And even though Leaf Blade is physical Leaf Tornado is Special, therefor damage is set via sp. attack.
To find out if a move is physical or special, look up serebii. The Black/White attackdex there should tell you if moves are special or physical. Alternitavely, by going to a pokemon's status and seeing there moves, it should show a symbol when you hover over a move, either a physical blow, a ripple or one of those yin&Yang signs.
Physical blow: Physical move: attack.
Ripple: Special move: Sp. attack.
Yin&Yang thingy: Other: status changing.
Hope this answered your question and happy gaming ^_^! Bearmen - 6 years ago
Sp.Attack is the stat that determines the power for special moves such as water gun or ember which dont deal physical damage
Attack is the stat that determines the power for physical moves such as tackle or take down which deal physical damage JakkDude - 6 years ago
Sorry for double post but hyper beam is a special attack since it is a beam (durp) so yeah x3 JakkDude - 6 years ago
All normal type moves were physical prior to Generation IV, which in this generation, would be a Special move. otaku473 - 6 years ago
