A heping helping of Kombatastic action

The Mortal Kombat franchise has been through tons of ups and downs, and good games and bad. But Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance is a superb example of how a fighting game can be brought to the Gamecube, and handle just as well as Super Smash Brothers Meelee.

Graphics=8- From the series of changes of grainy drawings and small 2D like people, to bad polygon/pixelshaded characters, MK:DA has taken a huge graphical turn for the better. Based on the last games Ps1 polygons and pixels, the newest installment has beautiful backgrounds that put even Kakuto Chojin's lame background's to shame. Characters clothes get torn and ripped, the bloody Fatalities have returned!

Sound=8- The sound in this game is great, from the ''thwak'' of your opponent getting knocked over by your weapon, or the crashing of a body being sent through an acid spilling pillar. My favorite part is the smashing of your opponent's head after Sonya stomps on it.

Control=7- Well, the control takes some time to get used to, ever since the Gamecube controller doesn't really look or seem like it should be compatible with a fighting game, but MK:DA pulls through just fine.

Replay value=9- There are so many things to achieve in MK:DA that it skyrockets it's replay value, with tons of secrets awaiting in the Krypt, it makes you want to collect coins and unlock whats waiting for you!

Characters=8- The characters in this game are one of my favorite parts in MK:DA. My favortie character was Sonya, and i loved all of her move and Kombos and of course her fatality. The stories behind the characters and the alliances that they formed with evil and good, i thought for sure Scorpian was aligned with evil.

Fatalities=10- Back in Mortal Kombat 1, i never liked the fatalities, with the fact i could'nt really see what was going on because of the graphics. Then Mortal Kombat 2 came and i loved the deaths scenes, with Mileena's bone spit, and the dead pool's stage fatality. Mortal Kombat 3 through 4, i didn't like since some characters would begin the fatality, and then the screen would go black and then Shao Kahn would say ''Fatality''. But now with MK:DA, i love them! The head smashing, skele ripping, head cutting, skull stomping, heart ripping action is good enough for even the whole family!

In conclusion, Mortal Kombat has become a something that no one ever believed it could become or achieve. The franchise has lifted itself from the grave and has filled with new life.

Final Score= 9/10

Rating:   4.5 - Outstanding
