Wow... Just wow...

Capcom’s new GameCube exclusive game, Viewtiful Joe, is the most original game there is. Have you ever wanted to be a super hero? How about be on the silver screen, or know some totally awesome karate moves? Well take all of those things, put them in a blender and add some craziness and you’ve got Viewtiful Joe.

The Graphics 10/10
The graphics in Viewtiful Joe are cell-shaded, and they fit perfectly with the entire game, making it seem like a comic book adventure. When you’re playing as normal Joe, the graphics are a little grainy, so it seems that you’re watching an old film. But when you transform into Viewtiful Joe, the colors become more crisp, and everything seems to come alive right before your eyes.

Gameplay 10/10
The gameplay in Viewtiful Joe is fantastic. There’s no other way to put it. The controls are simple, Y to punch and X to kick, accompanied by the L button to slow things down or R button to speed things up.

If the awesome graphics and simple controls weren’t enough, you can combine both of these to make devastating combos to unleash upon your foes. When you activate these combos, it seems that you could knock Godzilla out with Joe’s punches and kicks. He lets them fly like it’s nothing, and doesn’t seem to tire.

You can get three special abilities in Viewtiful Joe, Slow, Mach-Speed and Zoom In. Slow well, slows down all the enemies. This skill is vital for punching bullets back at the enemy and unleashing the furious combos that make Joe so awesome. Mach-Speed will come in handy when you want to zoom by something really quickly, or yet again, let fly an array of punches and kicks. Zoom In just sounds like a camera effect, but trust me, it’s not. It lets you focus on a small area of the screen, letting you pummel foes relentlessly. You’ll use all of these skills to beat up enemies and help you solve puzzles.

Music 9/10
The tunes in Viewtiful Joe compliment the game extremely well. They’re the kind of songs that go well with beating the crud out of enemies. Capcom did an excellent job with the sound effects also, like when you use the Slow power, the music seems to slow down, and the exact opposite happens with the Mach speed ability.

Replayability 10/10
From secret characters to unlocking the Viewtiful World music video, this game is full of extras. Even without all the extras, the game is still a must-buy.

In my closing statement, you should buy this game. It is totally worth it, and has been in my GameCube ever since I bought it. Viewtiful joe will most likely shine a light on the GameCube and lift it from its dry spell.
