Is That a Story or a Sad Excuse to Make Us Put In More Gameplay Hours?
Gotcha Force is a great all around game. I kept buying games that looked really cool and then being disappointed because they were horrible. Gotcha force changed that and I'm hoping that it got rid of my losing streak. Gotcha Force is probably the most flawed good game ever made. It is sort of like Custom Robo but instead of choosing a robo and his weapons you just choose from over 200 different robots.
Story: 3 out of 10. This is definitely the worst part of the game. Some kid sees a meteor fall from the sky and because there is no story if no one
is curious the kid decides to check it out. A toy named G Red comes out and tells the kid that there are more toys like him. An evil group of toys bent on destroying the world, and a good group bent on stopping them. The usual cliché as heck stuff. From then on the story consists of a few meaningless speech bubbles before and after each important battle. Basically, the story stinks.
Replay Value: 8 out of 10. Not bad at all. What else is there to say? This games replay value is just about as good as Custom Robo's replay value. Facing your friends is always fun and you will find yourself shouting at the screen and getting really into the game.
Sound: 6 out of 10. I count three components to the sound. Voice acting, Background music, and Sound effects. The voice acting is horrible; the background music is appropriate and not bad at all; and the sound effects are okay on the good side.
Game play: 9 out of 10. The controls are excellent and the only flaw is that sometimes it will do a long range attack when you want a short range attack. The game has absolutely no tutorial so you will have to read the Instruction Booklet thingy. It doesn't really matter though because the first five or so battles are extremely (EXTREMELY!!!) easy and they allow you to get a feel of the game. The first robot you get is one of the best in the game (depending on your fighting style but most people will like him) which helps. You get to choose a partner to fight with most of the time (sometimes it will choose for you and sometimes you gotta go it alone) and each has their own fighting style. My favorite is Mana because her GF Toy thingy's heal you which can really REALLY help. She is weak though and dies quick. There is a wide variety of robos, ranging from super fast with low defense, to the range attack masters (REVOLVER GUNMAN, GATLING GUNNER) to the useless and just plain annoying to fight robo's to the gigantic destructive, incredibly high life robot's with low mobility. This game has a lot of stuff.
Graphics: 9 out of 10 for a game from 2003. They are pretty good. You never get a chance to stare at anything in excruciating detail and so even if some stuff is pixelated, you shouldn't notice.
Camera: 4 out of 10. The camera is another extremely flawed component of Gotcha Force. It has spaz attacks every few minutes and every time you pull off a short range combo the camera zooms out to let you see the end of it. That is cool but it can kill your sense of direction which is bad in such a fast paced game.
This game is all around really good and really really flawed. It is worth getting if you can find it because it is pretty rare.
