"Sonic Rides Again"

While Mario has numerous spin-offs, Sonic the Hedgehog (The Fat Plumber's Arch-Rival) has very little to compare. Up to date only, Sonic the Fighters, Sonic Shuffle, Tails Adventures, Sonic Battle, Sonic R and, to some extent, Shadow the Hedgehog exist. Of the above, only Sonic R was a racing game, however, it was not directly created by SEGA but a company called Traveler's Tales. The game was some fun but extremely short with a lack of tracks. Now, Sonic Riders, the second Sonic Racing game has been released, how does this game rank among the Sonic Spinoffs?

Graphics: Much improved from Shadow the Hedgehog... especially the in-game models. The CGIs are numerous and look as great as when they were first used in "Shadow". The game constantly keeps the graphics the same, even during the speedy races. 10/10

Story: Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles fight with new race rivals, Jet, Wave and Storm in Eggman's Grand Prix. Some humor involved but not a massive story, but who expects a huge story from a racing game? 8/10

Controls:The controls in this game are pretty interesting. Most of the time, the controls are pretty accurate, but there are certain stages of races where things get hectic and you'll find yourself having trouble to navigate a tough corner and out flying off an edge of the track. Throughout most of the levels you'll be okay but during the later story levels, you'll end up falling off many times. 9/10

Gameplay: This racer is like none other seen before, SEGA has really used their heads to create this one. You will race atop a hoverboard, through all the races. Each hoverboard, needs to keep a float and to do this you need air. There is an air tank at the side of the screen which tells you the remaining air. To gain air back, you have to recharge at the numerous stations, complete tricks or press certain buttons during special events. Another interesting conditions is turbualance, a wave created behind each boarder that you can ride on to gain a HUGE speed advantage. The Turbulance is risky, as it can sometimes send you off an edge but is also very rewarding as you'll get a large speed boost. 10/10

Music & Setup: The setup of the game is good. The menus and explanations are easy to understand. The music for the game is pretty good. There are no songs that are outstanding but none are bad enough to destroy your ears. 9/10

Extras/Unlockables: This game has TONS of Unlockables. At the beginning of the game, you start with only 7 characters and five levels. (Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Jet, Wave, Storm as well as Amy) By completing Story Mode, Grand Prix Mode and Mission Mode you can collect rings to gain new gear, unlock more than 10 other diverse characters and more than 10 other levels. (Though many are just different versions of created levels) There's many types of gear for each character and many other things to unlock. 10/10

Story: 8
Gameplay: 10
M&S: 9
Extras: 10
Overall (Not an Average): 9.3/10
