Man this game Still blows me away
Okay now here's the deal. I was returning a game I had just rented when my mom said that I could rent another. So I searched and searched but I could not find a good game. I went from Playstation 2 (which all the good ones were all out) to Gamecube (games I already played were in) finally I went to the Gameboy Advance section. I saw Mario and Luigi and Final Fantasy. I asked myself which one! I knew which one so I grabbed Mario and Luigi. This game rocks and it blew me away with all the features and the intro in the Mario and Luigi section. Here's my review!
Story: The story starts off with the ''ambassador'' from BeanBean Village coming to give a gift for the Mushroom Kingdom. The gift opens and what do you see!? Something capable of stealing Princess Peach's voice. But for what you say? Play this game to unravel the secret of Cackletta's plan with her underling with the funny hat. A toad runs to Mario's house and notifies him of Princess Peach's despairs. Mario rushes there with Luigi right behind him and the rest is history.
Gameplay: Okay let me put it this way. If you played Paper Mario (for the Nintendo 64) and liked it, then you're going to like this game. This game rocks in everything. First off the buttons are simple. A to jump on the field and the same in battle (or hammer later) to avoid enemy attacks. Also if you time it just right you can do alot more damage onto your enemy. B button is to cancel all the actions and stuff and to control Luigi's special and such on the field and on the battlefield. L button changes Mario's weapons and R button changes Luigi's weapons. The start button changes the characters on the field and also allows you to use the other character's special jump or hammer skill. Select simply opens up the menu. In my opinion I really think they should've had start for the menu (suitcase) since that's kind of like the pause menu and select to change the characters. But that is just me. All in all the gameplay never get's boring it is fun in all categories.
Sound: The sound is well made. The music fits Mario and Luigi just right (although it may seem childish at times.) This game is really good! The sound effects are much like Paper Mario's (the hammer and jump sounds and stuff like that. I have no complaints here except for Rookie and that shadow dude got on my nerves with their tunes and their jump attacks. Even reading their messages were annoying!
Challenge: This category is well-rounded. The game gets harder and harder as you progress through the game. I did not know what to do at times but I did finish the game in under 10 hours on my first try. But that was because once I saw what I needed to do I turned off the game and went straight for that. That's just one of my habits I guess. Some of the boss battles made me so mad though. I can't say which ones because that would ruin the fun of the game but yeah it made me real mad.
Replay Value: The game has alot of replay value since its a great game if you're on the road alot (that's me) then you will want something good and long. This game is very easy to learn and is very addictive. I found myself playing this game at 3 o'clock in the morning once. But that's just me.
Final Verdict: I recommend this game for anyone who likes handheld platformers. If you dont then don't buy this game since it will be too childish for you ''mature'' people out there. On the other hand if you like Nintendo then no doubt you like Mario. That's a proven fact. This game is excellent and only why I gave this game 9/10 was because of the story. It had some outrageous names in it that made me want to puke. I mean Cackletta!? C'mon Nintendo I think we get that she's evil.
Rating: 4.5 - Outstanding
