"Even better than Super Sonic Warriors!"
Story Mode: 9/10
The story mode for this game is very well constructed. It stays very faithful to the Dragonball story line. Both the script and the cutscenes are better developed than Banpresto's last DBZ game "Super Sonic Warriors." The only flaw is that it doesn't include the events occurring after the defeat of King Piccolo.
The controls and gameplay during story mode are have few flaws. The positioning of the buttons is basic and easy to master. Both bosses and standard enemies have a variety of attacks, which makes battles more interesting. The game loses some points because of its mediocre one-on-one battle mode. These battles consist of little more than repeatedly punching and kicking the enemy until their guard runs out and then firing off energy attacks every now and then.
The graphics in this game are probably the best out of all the DB gameboy games. They outclass Super Sonic Warriors in terms of detail and are much better than those of the horrible Taiketsu (I shudder at the mere mention of its name.).
No real flaws in the sounds in this game. The background music is chosen well and the physical and energy attacks have realistic sounds.
This game is filled with tons of different modes of play. There are countless available characters to replay the levels of story mode with and there dozens of items to collect. The main story mode can become a bit monotonous after a while but their are so many other modes of play that it has little effect on the replay value.
If you are a DB fan then you should definitely get this game. It is the only game out so far that is solely based on Dragonball. As for DBZ fans it is still great game and it has some characters that most DBZ games lack. It has very few negative qualities and is, in my opinion, better than any other DB gameboy game made so far.
This game shows that Banpresto has much potential for developing DB/Z/GT games. I can only hope that it will eventually be released in countries besides Japan.
