"Another great addition to the Sonic Series!"

Wow, a sequel to one of the best games ever. Could it be like most of the other sequels that could never live up to all the hype? The answer is, NO!!! This game is awesome! There is so much more to do in this game, the graphics are better, and best of all you can play against a friend, or have both of you try to go through the stages as a team, and try to beat Dr. Robotnik (Eggman) together. You can develop your own strategies for beating the robots and bosses, which really makes you and your partner think while playing this.

Just like in the last game, there is Sonic the Hedgehog, the speedy blue hedgehog with an attitude. The blue blur is back and is ready to do what he does best! Now also, there is a partner of his, Miles Prower, better known as Tails, who tags along with Sonic on his adventure. Tails looks up to Sonic like he was his own brother. Tails is a fox with two tails (hence the name) and many people like him for his cute look, and he does not lack anything that Sonic has, he can do the same kinds of moves, and can be a real help to you! Of course, there is the evil Dr. Robotnik who is trapping animals in robots, but is now try to power his most deadly machine yet, the Death Egg. It is up to Sonic and Tails to speed through the courses and stop the maniac before something really bad happens!

Gameplay: 10/10: Just like a Sonic game should be, the action gameplay in this game is superb! It is fast paced, and you can go through the courses, taking different paths every time you play, destroying robots, and destroying one of Robotnik's boss machines at the end of each act, just like in Sonic the Hedgehog. The only difference with the acts in this game is there are two acts in every zone instead of the original three, but there are many zones to make up for that, which makes the game more exciting, for you won't be doing the same stage for too long, unless you keep dying, but in that case, you should be happy for you have a challenge. Now, the grand finale, if you are able to get all the chaos emeralds, Sonic will gain the ability to go Super Sonic! This is the first game to allow Sonic to do this, and it is a tradition that was passed on through many later Sonic games. Also, the bosses are very good, and have a lot more attacks to keep you on your toes until you figure out what the boss does.

Graphics: 10/10: The graphics in this game make Sonic look a little different than he did in the first game, for he looks a little bit darker, but that is not a problem in this game. Tails looks great, and they do these little actions that make the game really good, whether it is having their faces look shocked when they suddenly drop or go down a water slide. The environments are really good and full of color, and the backgrounds are just as good. The robots are nice and comical to keep a fun aspect to the game, and look even better than they did in the other game, except now they have many more varieties of robots. The bosses look great as well.

Storyline: 8/10: The storyline is pretty much the same as the other Sonic game, with Robotnik sealing the animals in robots and Sonic and Tails having to stop him, although they did add a seventh chaos emerald, which gives Sonic a special ability, and makes the game harder to beat fully with all the chaos emeralds in your possession.

Challenge: 10/10: I like the challenge level in this game because it is a little bit harder than the first one, which is should be for those who had the first one and are looking for more of a challenge in another Sonic game. Plus, with the addition of one more chaos emerald to look after, you will have to do more to get all of them, not to mention the special stages are harder this time around, at least it seems like to me. Luckily, if you have a friend, you can work together and get through the game easier, but that only works if you cooperate and beat the game as a team.

Replayability: 10/10: This game will never get old, for there are so many things to do. You will have fun with this by yourself for a long time, but with a friend the fun doubles! This truly is a great Sonic game, and is one of, if not my favorite Sonic game ever made.

Buy/Rent: Buy, without a doubt! This game is a classic just like the one before it. If you only rent it and have to part with it for one day, you will regret not buying it, so I suggest that you go out and get it asap if you do not already. If you do not have a genesis, don't worry, it is also on the gamecube, as well as many other classic Sonic games.
