This old MSX game is every bit as good as it's PSX sequal
Gameplay - This game is ALOT harder than I though it would be the first time I played it. It's also VERY long. You'll probably spend more time trying to beat this game than you would trying to beat Metal Gear Solid the first time through. There are tons of guards all over the place and if you are caught, it is VERY hard to get the guards off your tail. The boss fights are also extremely hard as well. Snake must also avoid tons of traps and use several different hi-tech gadgets and hi-powered weapons to get through the game.
Story - It's a classic Metal Gear story. Snake is sent on a mission to to rescue Czech Biologist Dr. Kio Marv from a terrorist base at Zanzibar Land in Africa. During the mission, Snake discovers that the terrorists have created a new Metal Gear and he must destroy it. During the game, you will meet several new characters and fight tons fo bosses. The story ties in well to Metal Gear Solid. One boss was a member of LES ENFANTS TERRIBLES(The Terrible Children, a part of the story in MGS) and another character is tied in with Grey Fox somehow. The only way to find out how all this ties in with MGS is to play the game. There are also some good plot twists in there as well.
Rating: 15/10(yes, it's that good)
Audio - I didn't like the audio on this game. Most of the sound effects are the same thing with either a higher or lower pitch. The music isn't very good either. It doesn't use any tunes from the original Metal Gear, which was disappointing. But hey, what can you expect from an old system?
Video - The visuals are absolutely amazing for such and old game on an old system. There are a ton of colors used and the graphics look just as good, if not better than most SNES games. Every location in the game uses different textures, so you never feel like your in the same area like most of the other old games.
Replay Value - Once you've beaten this game, you might want to play it another time or two, but you won't be playing it over and over again.
Overall - This is one of the most interesting game I've ever played. It has a good story, good length, hard difficulty, and great graphics. It's amazing that they could make games this deep back in the mid-late 80's.
Rating: 5.0 - Flawless
