CoolBoarders has nothing on this one...
Okay, simply put, this is the best snowboarding ever. CoolBoarders will never come up with something better than this, never. Anyway, on with the review:
By far the smoothest you will ever see on a snowboarding game, for once the N64 has done a game justice. There is some slight slowdown in multiplayer games, but that's about it. The riders, boards, and courses all have there own great individual qualities, too.
The sound is almost perfect. The sliding of the snow, the announcer of the moves, hell you can even tell by listening what nationality these snowboarders are from. (They are given so check if your right.) My main complaint is the music. Yes, the music. It is completely original, but not that great. It just seems unsatisfying to the atmosphere of the game. It even appears weird at times. (Is it just me or is the singer saying, ''I like sex'' in that one song?) Anyway, I just wish that the soundtrack could've been done by some cool big name bands like Blink 182 or Bad Religion, like on MTV: Snowboarding. Sound quality is over all suprisingly good for an N64 game.
So much stuff, not enough hours in the day! :) Anyway, there are so many secrets in the game (Extra Courses, Ice Man, Gold Man, Panda Boarder, Penguin Board, etc.) you'll find yourself playing for hours on end! Control is near perfect. Even though tricks such as the 900 or the 1080 are near impossible frenzies of button mashing, the use of analog is sheer brilliance in this game as it is much more fun to bust out a Stalefish or a Indy Nosebone in the the halfpipe than it is to try to pull off tricks that are as impossible in the game as they are in real life. But still, for an extreme sports game with analog support, it rivals Tony Hawk Pro Skater, Street Sk8er, and CoolBoarders all rolled into one. And it still won't beat the analog support on this game. It's that good.
Total Fun Factor: 8/10
If you're an extreme sports fan, buy an N64 just for this game. Despite multiplayer slowdown and odd background music, which are the games only downfalls, this game will not be a dissapointment. Forget a rent, go get it NOW!
Rating: 4.0 - Great
