Quite Possibly the Greatest Sports Game of All Time
This review is over the greatest boxing game of all time, Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! You play as Little Mac, a small, yet ambitious rookie who's on his way to become the champion. On your way to the championship, you will fight an assortment of wacky and zany characters that range from a Persian prince, to a fat king, to a soda drinking muscle man, and to even more crazy people you'd never expect to find in a boxing game.
The gameplay runs fast and smoothly with an assortment of punches that you can use to take down your enemies. Each boxer you face has their own special move that you must dodge, block, or counter. This usually requires fast reflexes so get ready for some intense fights.
Quite possibly the most entertaining part of the game is seeing each of the boxers special moves and trying to think of a way to stop it. The game is challenging so get ready to spend a lot of time and effort into this game. The first battle is really easy but after that the boxers use tactics and strategies that are tough to predict. Once you get to the second title bout, the AI ranks up and starts throwing random patterns into the fight. It's impossible to predict what your opponent is going to do. And the match can turn from an easy win to a savage beating very quickly.
If you don't KO or TKO your opponent by the time 3 rounds are up, you will have a draw where the judges decide who wins based off of the stats from the fight. The fact that such an old game could have been as realistic as a real fight is almost scary. The final battle however is about as unrealistic as you can get. Your put up against Mike Tyson, obviously, and one hit from him will get you knocked down.
The graphics in this game are great. All the characters have a nice cartoonish look which makes the characters all the more wackier and allows for some solid and fluent movement.
Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! really tests out your reflexes and skill. I wouldn't recommend this to people who suck at games(especially sports games)since the game is really difficult and triggers your anger very quickly. But for those looking for a great boxing game, I suggest you get this as soon as possible.
