"Konami's Hockey game is a winner."
Blades of Steel is a hockey game made by Konami. Blades of Steel happens to be one of the greatest hockey games ever created. There are two modes in Blades of Steel. They are Exhibition and Tournament. In those two modes you can choose the difficulty. You can choose from Junior (Easy), College (Medium) and Pro (Hard). In Exhibition you just play a regular hockey match. In Tournament its similar to the WWF Pay-Per-View ''King of the Ring''. You have to take your team to the trophie. There is no save so you have to do all the matches in one setting. It doesn't take to long though. In Blades of Steel there are 8 teams. The teams have no names, they are just locations. The 8 teams are New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Vancouver and Minnesota. One of the best parts of this game is fighting. You can fight nearly every 15 seconds if you wanted to. All you have to do is to ram into your opponent 3 times and then you start the fight. In the fight you have 5 balls that represent your health. Each punch to either the head or the body causes one ball to go away. Whoever loses the fight goes to the penalty box. Lets get on to the review.
The graphics aren't top notch but great. The ref looks good and so does the crowd. Each team has its own color so you won't get confused. The animations are pretty good. When you are fighting the players look okay but they have no face and so does the crowd. The player you are controlling will be flashing to tell you your controlling that player. Overall pretty good graphics.
The sound in Blades of Steel is spectacular! The hits and ''Ah!''sound great. At the title screen you hear somebody say ''Blades of Steal!'' and during the match you hear ''Faceoff'' and ''Makes a Pass''. The music in this game is what really earned the 10. Before the game starts you hear an awesome music while the players are just skating around. Before each period starts you also hear a different music while the players are skating around. At the end of the game the team who won will skate around while you hear another great music.
The control in Blades of Steel is marvelous and simple. During the game you move with the direction pad, B is shoot and A is pass. During a fight B is block the head and B + down is block the body. A is punch the head and A + down is punch the body. No problem in the control!
There are 3 levels of difficulty (Junior, College, and Pro). Junior is pretty easy. College is a bit harder and Pro is super hard.
Replay Value 10/10
Blades of Steel has a huge amount of replay value in it. The single player mode might get boring after a month or two but if you have a friend to play with the game will NEVER get boring.
-Excellent sound and control
-It takes seconds to start a fight!
-Incredible replay value
-Very fun fights
-No bad things at all!
