"Great strategy game. Even better if played with friends!"
Worms Armageddon for the PC.
Worms Armageddon is the next installment in the franchise of Worms from the producer team17. It features tons of more options, customization, and different ways to play. It outdoes Worms 2 in a couple of categories. I'll lay them out for you in the detailed over-view.
The gameplay is where this series stands out. If you look beyond the cartoonish graphics, and really look at the game for what it is, it's a very complex strategy game. There are over 50 weapons to choose from, and they are the feature of this game. Weapons like the powerful super-banana bomb, and ''prod'' for laughter. Realistic weapons like the shotgun, and bazooka for the serious type. Whatever kind of weapons you prefer, it's all here in this game. And that's what makes this game so great.
The controls seem rather complicated at first, but once you've played a few matches, you get the hang of things. The hardest part of the game is remembering all the different weapons, and what they all do. There's so many it seems very hard to learn, but it won't seem to bad later. Best of all, this game is genuinely fun, with little harm. If you have kids, you might want to keep them away from this title, but really there's no blood or gore. It all depends on your tastes.
This game comes packed with options, and different types of games to play. You can try your luck at a multiplayer game against your friends, or against the computers. You can enter training mode and build up your skills. There's also a mode to do missions in. In this mode you have to strategize on how you will complete the objectives. Objectives range greatly in what you have to do to fulfil the task. They're not just seek and destroy the enemy. It takes loads of talent and thinking to finish these tasks. There are about 20 missions to complete, so that will keep you pretty busy.
There's little story in the game to speak of. In fact, the only story I'm speaking of is the missions. Like I've talked about before, you must complete specific tasks assigned. Each mission has a different story, so you get a lot of different stories.
Armageddon's cartoonish graphics are slightly better than its predecessor's, but ''slightly'' is the keyword here. Dozens of new maps are available in this sequel. Even the the graphics don't look like the next Final Fantasy VIII, they're very clean, crisp, and are flawless. I haven't seen a graphical glitch yet, in all my playing. The only sad part is, you inadvertently blow up the land while you're trying to destroy the other worms!
Definitely one of Armageddon's strong points. When you customize your team, naming your characters and team-name, you get to choose your sound options also. Whenever you kill a worm, or something notable happens, your worms will speak. Depending on which character voice you choose, it will say some witty remark. There are probably around 100 voice-sets to choose from, and some of them are quite hilerious. It's worth trying most of them out. You can also choose a victory theme. One you win a match, this song will play while you check out the awards that are handed out to individual worms.
There's not much in this game to replay, since you can keep breaking all of your old records and such. Plus, playing with friends racks you points for your team! So, unless your data gets erased somehow, there's no reason to start over. But, if your data does get erased, it's definitely worth replaying. Besides, there's potentially hundreds of hours worth of play time packed into this game.
This is a must-own game. The hours that you will spend, perfecting your game and fulfilling all the missions options are endless. Right now, you can buy Worms 2, Worms Armageddon, and Worms World Party together for a retail of $10. That's definitely worth it if you ask me. All in all, this is a great game that will keep you busy for awhile, and is even better if you play with friends.
