"A bit better than the first! Despite being more of the same."

Doom 2 is the sequal to the original Doom. After you have blown through the two moon bases and Hell itself, you continue to battle Demons and other monstrosities through your home planet! That's the follow up to the story.

Gameplay is the same thing from the original either a good thing or bad thing for you. You only get one new weapon: The double-barreled shotgun. Twice as more powerful than the regular shotgun. I was kinda disappointed in that. However, you get a slew of new enemies! There is another type of former human in the game called ''Heavy Weapon Dude'' or something like it. And more vicious monsters that are even tougher to kill and have harsh attacks. If you thought that the first Doom was tough, wait till you play Doom 2. Doom 2 is about 3 times tougher than the first Doom. I'm serious. This game is really tough. Even on the easier difficulties, this game is really tricky to beat. The stages are darker and more complex. The enemies are in darker rooms to surprise you. And of course, the new enemies are really a pain.

You get no changes in the graphics. Which is either a bad thing or a good thing for you. The graphics are pretty much the same. The new types of monsters are designed very well. And another thing that is the same guessed it! The sound is the same too! The music is still cool and catchy, and there are many levels to choose from. 32 total.

Graphics: 7/10

The graphics are still the same. I kinda like it's cheesiness though. The new enemies look cool too. But still, it is still the same.

Sound: 9/10

Gunshots, enemy deaths, door sounds, item chimes, and a few others sound the same. Some music tracks are the same, but lots of them are different and cool.

Controls: 10/10

They are the same too. Tab button is to see map, Ctrl is to shoot, Space is to open doors, etc. They are the same, but they were good to begin with.

Gameplay: 8/10

Ok, there is really no difference in Doom 2's gameplay. It is really the same as the original. That's cool if you don't mind, but you will get disappointed if you wanted to see changes in the gameplay. The gameplay is still fun and exciting. The goals in levels are still repetitive, but if you can handle that, you'll have a good time.

Replayability: 8/10

This game is A LOT tougher than the first Doom. Since there are more new, tougher enemies, they can sometimes make quick work of you. It's difficulty kinda pushes it down, but if you can handle it, you will be satisfied through all 32 levels. There are also 2 secret levels throughout the game. 2 out of the 32 are from another game made by ID, the developer of this game too. I'm not saying which game, you have to find the levels to figure out. And like the regular Doom, this game has co-op mode too. This game is much better with a friend.

+Good, familiar gameplay
+Lots of levels
+New types of enemies

-Dated Graphics
-Not enough new weapons

Final thoughts:

This game is a must-have for Doom fans. This is much creepier and tougher than the first. And all those stages make the game have good replay value. If you had fond memories with the first Doom, this is worth picking up. However this game does end up being more of the same. It's good if you are a fan, but not so good if you are not.
