Good Game, Bad Port
Virtua Fighter PC, is basically just Virtua Fighter, on your PC, and that's where it went wrong. Whoever redesigned this game for the PC was either lazy, or stupid, as they forgot to make several serious adjustments, eg. a way to exit without turning off you PC.
Music/Sound - The music for this game is mediocre at best. It's a bit too repetitive and not quite loud enough. The sound effects are quite good though, with different sounds for the type of platform you are on, and each player with their own shouts and yells.
Graphics - The graphics are reasonable, although could have been much better. The characters have dangerously sharp edges and the platforms are basically grey blocks. The background graphics, of mountains or a starry sky, are ok, but not fantastic. I suppose they were good for it's time.
Gameplay - This is where the game really fails. Nothing was changed to fit the PC. You can't even exit without turning off your computer or using alt + F4, the controls require you too twist your fingers into knots just to reach the basic kick and punch buttons and there is no way to adjust them. A right sorry mess indeed. Even if the controls were decent, your opponents in the later levels get far too hard to be fun, and the annoying ''RING OUT!'' every time you get close to winning is going to drive you mad sooner or later. And too many continues just takes the skill out of it.You just end up doing the same move over and over again, until the computer either jumps out the ring or you win from having more health at time up.
Replay - Probably the best part of the game. With 8 different characters to master or pummel, and a versus mode to go one on one with your friends, this game lasts a fair while. However, the single player mode is pretty poor for replay value. If you're anything like me, it will have aggravated you enough first time unless you master the games, in which case you'll just breeze through the 1 player mode and it still won't be that much fun.
Overall - If you're a die hard VF fan and you don't want to buy a Saturn to play the original on, then this is the game for you. In all other respects, this game is useless. Any other game in the series is not only better, but probably easier to find too.
Rating: 2.5 - Playable
