"Another solid game is rushed out and ruined"

Before I begin, don't ever get the indication that Gangsters 2 is a bad game. It is a good game, but it was very obviously rushed out the door too early during productions. A neat premise and genuinely fun gameplay is ruined by a poor interface and bad path-finding.

Graphics/Animations- 6/10: The graphics aren't particularly bad, but they're not really very good either. The game is played from an isometric quasi-3D perspective. The levels are fairly well-detailed and the landscapes look believable. However, there are a few glitches that hold the game back. the animations are quite smooth, though the cars are sluggish at best in their movements.

Sound/Music- 4/10: Not at all memorable. The gun-shots sound like gun-shots should, but nothing is at all impressive. I can't even remember if there is music or not.

Gameplay- 10/10: There is a ton of fun to be had with Gangsters 2. You control a ruthless gang (surprise!) and try to control the streets. The twist? This is a 1930's style game. That's right, you can run your own rum-running squad, eliminating targets and removing/assimilating rival businesses. In general the game is a lot of fun. The mission objectives are varied and the story mode will lead you all across the USA. You can employ many different tactics for removal of rival gangsters, from heartless drive-by shootings to the bombing of entire apartment complexes. Fun!

Story- 7/10: The story has you trailing your father's killer. You begin the game with a single gangster trying to take small local objectives. Eventually you will deal with major metropolises, and the game will have you wheeling-and-dealing with fellow crime-lords. The story is generally enjoyable, if someone lacking any real twists.

Gameplay Mechanics- 2/10: This is where the game really falls apart. The interface is horrible-- sometimes just keeping track of your Gangsters is a chore in itself. A functioning mini-map would have been REALLY nice. The AI is stupid as well. You'd think that after sending in 10 consecutive bomb squads to destroy one of my businesses that the enemy would eventually take a hint and try something new-- nope! Your opponent will continue to send the same low-level attacks at the same building using the same route of attack and being slaughtered by the same hail of gun-fire time and again. Stupid. The pathfinding is horrible as well. Your gangsters will openly take joy-rides through enemy territory. There's nothing like losing your best men because they decided to pay a visit to your rival. Idiots.

In the end, the game itself is full of opportunity for a good time. On the other hand, the game is over-flowing with stupid mistakes made by the developers and the fact that the game was obviously rushed. Given a couple more months in development the game could have been a real winner.

The Good
-Solid story
-Nice animations
-Genuinely fun gameplay

The Bad
-Ho-hum graphics
-Lackluster sound

The Ugly
-Horrid interface
-Terrible pathfinding
-Major AI issues
