Best. FPS. Ever.
What do you get when you mix Half-Life, Rainbow-Six, and Team Fortress Classic? That's right, you guessed it..........Counter-Strike. Why is it that a game developed by amateurs put professionals to shame? Well, this review will explain that in further detail.
While the graphics aren't great, they get the job done. It's the sufficient looks that make it look great. It doesn't bog down your system, and the visuals are crisp and clean enough to provide a visually adequate gaming experience. Not only are the graphics adequate, but they provide the ambient backdrop that makes the game so engrossing.
Ah yes, this is what Counter-Strike is about. This game has gameplay in spades. I've been playing this game for about a year and a half, and I am yet to become bored of it. The game basically consists of Counter-Terrorists fighting to keep the peace in today's world, but there always has to be someone to mess it all up. In this case, it's the Terrorists. There are three different modes of play, and the map that you play on dictates this. You have the VIP maps where the Counter-Terrorists try to get a player controlled VIP from point ''A'' to point ''B'' without getting assassinated by Terrorists. You have the bomb diffusing maps where the Terrorists are supposed to plant a bomb at a designated bomb site, and the Counter-Terrorists are supposed to diffuse it. Then you have the hostage maps, this is where the Counter-Terrorists are supposed to rescue a group of hostages from the Terrorists. Of course you don't have to complete the objectives. You can always just kill the opposing team. The one thing that makes this game's gameplay so great is that you can just jump into any game and start playing. There are literally thousands upon thousands of games going on right as you read this review. So you won't have a problem finding someone to play with.
The sounds in this game are crucial. A good Counter-Strike player knows how to listen to the footsteps of his opponent and figure out where he is. This is something that you have to factor in. You can't just go running around at full speed when you're the only survivor on your team. You will easily be caught with your loud footsteps. Not only are the sounds of your footsteps crisp and clear, but the sounds of each weapon is dead on. An AK-47 sounds like an AK-47, the Desert Eagle sounds like the Desert Eagle.
Like I said earlier, I've been playing this game for about a year and a half. You never really beat the game, so you never really finish it. You just keep playing it, and playing it, and playing it, and playing it, and playing it. It never loses its appeal, that's the beauty of Counter-Strike. In fact, it gets more fun as your skills progress. Playing Counter-Strike is almost like an art form. You get better with each game. Your skills progress, this is what makes playing Counter-Strike such a damn fun game.
In conclusion, if you have Half-Life, download the mod version of this game! If you don't have Half-Life, buy the retail version of this game!
I give this game a 10 out of 10. It has received the Punkguy856 seal of approval.
