"The best game ever? Perhaps..."

The Grand Theft Auto Series is the best series of games that have come out in the past few years. I bought Vice City for the PC thinking it would be an updated GTA 3…even that would be worth it, but boy is it much more than an update. Despite the originality of GTA 3, Vice City manages to surpass its predecessor in every way imaginable.

Story 9/10
You are Tommy Vercetti. It’s the 80’s and you are sent to Vice City to do a deal for the Mafia when everything goes wrong. In trying to make your money back, you build your own empire based on hookers, porn, drugs, counterfeiting money, and of course, cars. The story is engaging and interesting. However, it seems very tried and true, a story which can be foreseen before even starting to play the game.

Sound 11/10
Yes, 11/10. The voice acting is amazing. Ray Liotta does Tommy. But who cares, huh? Every secondary character is amazing, such as the drug lord, Diaz, acted by Luis Guzman (OZ, Boogie Nights, etc). There are more well known actors, but just know that there are famous actors in there that portray their roles perfectly.
And the music…features some of the best music of the 1980’s, including Michael Jackson, Ozzy Osbourne, and much much much much more. I am going to download many of the songs I heard in the game for my listening pleasure outside of the game. Simply surprising and amazing the music you get in this game. Some 80s nuts may argue that the game is worth it for the music alone.

Graphics 8/10
Sharp graphics, but because it is a PS2 port, it by no means takes advantage of top end PCs today. However, it benefits older computer users, as the requirements for running this game are slim. So if you have a PC that’s less than 4 years old, you probably can run this game. The game’s environment looks perfect and mimics Southern Florida very well. The main character himself lacks the advanced movements many third person games, like Splinter Cell has…but that is not what this game is about.

Gameplay 10/10
Challenging missions. A pace much faster than GTA 3. Helicopters, motorcycles, fast boats, numerous weapons, new features are all added to GTA 3. The missions are varied and never repetitive. There are a few races, but they are very very different. Some require speed, others finesse, others damage-intake, checkpoint missions, flying missions, etc. etc. Shooting missions are done very well for a game based on cars. I’ve never had so much fun playing a game in single player. This game ranks in my top 5 ever.

Overall 10/10.
What can I say other than go and get this game. If you loved GTA 3, you’ll love Vice City. If you thought GTA 3 should have been faster paced with more story development and character get it. If you like a game, where you can do whatever you want, go get it. If you like racing games, go get it. If you like games where you kill people that get in your way, go get it. So, in conclusion, go get one of the best gam
