In 2002, American chess grandmaster Larry Christiansen played against the Chessmaster 9000 game in four matches. The first match was against the Alekhine personality, which Christiansen won. However, he lost to the Fischer and Botvinnik personalities, which he played against in the second and third matches, and fought the fourth match to a draw against the default game AI.
