"One of the best Real Time Strategy games ever."
One of the best Real Time Strategy games ever.
This is a great improvement over the original Age of Empires. Though on the surface they're the same game, but AOE 2 has much more depth.
Graphics 10 out of 10
Ok, so what if it's a 2-D Game? It still looks awesome, with some 3-D animations on the mills and some units.
Sound 10 out of 10
From the screams of dieing British Longbowmen, to the trampling of a Padalins' feet the sound is great. In the campaign mode there are live voices which add to the fun.
Replay Value 10 out of 10
This game will keep you going for a long time.
You can play multiplayer on the Zone (www.zone.com) which is really cool and easy.
Plus there's a Random Map generator, a Regicide mode (where you try to kill the enemy's king) 13 different civilizations to keep you busy.
Game Manual 15 out of 10
To me the documentary describing the game is extremly important. The 142 Page booklet is GREAT, whether you're a green newbie trying to learn the controls to a RTS expert wanting to know if Longbowmen can fire over fortified walls.
And there's a 4-part fold out which lists every unit, building, civ, and technology.
Since the stories in the campaign are based on real events and real people it's more like a history lesson!
Which is cool.
Overall 10 out of 10
This a great game. Get it now.
