"Just Another Expansion, or a Great Addition to the original?"

Rise of Rome is an expansion for the original Age of Empires. When you first look at the back of the box of the game, there's all these ''New Additions'' and Features. When you first start playing the game you may be disappointed...

Gameplay: There's absolutely NO DIFFERENCE to the Original Age of Empires. It is enjoyable like the original, but why pay more money for the same thing? The good point about of it is, it still has the great realastic graphics. I am a minor AOE fan, and dislike the buildings that the game has. For Example: The Ballista Tower is a rectangular stone needs more detail. The controls however is fairly easy to learn. Left-Click a unit to select it, Right-Click on some part of a land to move the unit. The game has it that the different civilization has different buildings, units and construction time, other then that, this game is a classic, original RPG game.

Story: Well, the storyline in very simple. Build your force and destroy the other bases, gather resources, or venture through dangerous paths to lead your civilization to victory. The storyline isn't that exciting, so don't look forward to it too much. I'll rather stick with the Death Match. The Death Match is an option in which you can choose up to 7 CPU AI opponents and you can also have Full Tech Trees. You can also play the Random Map option. So, you don't have to play the storyline, there's no point to it really.

Audio: The music and the sounds are too simplistic. Also, there isn't many sounds to deal with either. The music throughout the game gets annoying. The sounds I can think of is only when you click the buildings or units, when you're under attack, when someone dies, or when artillery is fired (Catapults, Ballistas). You can sometimes hear the water flowing beneath ships and chopping of lumber, but it's very unlikely throughout the game because you are busy creating units and battling. Some are okay, but most of them gets tiring after about 5-9 games.

Replayability: Replayability is absolutely great, unless you get tired of the audio. You can play this game for a long time, firstly starting off by facing 1 on 1 with computers, then battling more computer AI at a time. After you get used to it, you can battle other human players online, whichs never gets tiring.

Buy or Rent: If you are into RPGs, you should try this game out! If you're not into RPG, just rent it and see how you feel about it. For AOE fans, definately buy, or just don't buy it at all...
