Top Lane Nunu: What is it and why should I play it?+ === (THIS GUIDE ASSUMES YOU KNOW THE BASICS OF THE GAME) Nunu is a support hero with skills that mostly focusing around slowing enemy movement and attackspeed, and doing the opposite to allies. In this case, I play him as a bruiser in top lane due to his powerful spells. Nunu is mostly played as support, and in some occasions as a jungler, and rarely top lane. For this reason, people will not know how to deal with him in many situations. Top lane Nunu is a monster that when played right, will still stay a monster when team fights begin to happen. However, if you are unable to do well, then at most you will be able to do is stop your lane opponent from getting too much farm.
Passive: Visionary: After 5 autoattacks, Nunu's next spell costs no Mana.
This is half of the reason why Nunu can stay in lane forever, just by autoattacking for last hits, Nunu can get some free damage, or more sustain. If you use this passive as much as you can, you will be sure to win your lane.

- COOLDOWN: 16 / 14 / 12 / 10 / 8
- COST: 60 Mana
ACTIVE: Nunu commands his yeti to take a bite out of target enemy minion or neutral monster, dealing true damage to it and restoring Nunu's health.
- TRUE DAMAGE: 500 / 600 / 700 / 800 / 900
- HEALTH RESTORED: 125 / 180 / 235 / 290 / 345 (+ 100% AP)
This skill, when used together with his passive, is what makes Nunu almost impossible to move out of lane. The true damage makes it a garen-teed kill on a siege minion, making it almost impossible for your opponent to push you out of the lane. The scaling on this skill also works well with the items you will be doing, and as long as an enemy minion is nearby, you will last much longer in teamfights.
W: Blood Boil:
- RANGE: 700
- COOLDOWN: 15
- COST: 50 Mana
ACTIVE: Invigorates an allied unit by heating their blood, increasing their attack speed and movement speed for 12 seconds. If cast on an ally, Nunu also gains the effect of Blood Boil.
- ATTACK SPEED: 25% / 30% / 35% / 40% / 45%
- MOVEMENT SPEED: 8% / 9% / 10% / 11% / 12%
Other than pushing the lane and escaping ganks, this skill will not find much use in early game laning. However, if you do bad in lane, this skill will make up for it because this skill when maxed out, will provide a HUGE bonus to your AD Carry, with a whopping 45% attack speed buff and 12% movement speed buff.
E: Ice Blast:
- RANGE: 550
- COOLDOWN: 6
- COST: 75 / 85 / 95 / 105 / 115 Mana
ACTIVE: Nunu throws a ball of ice at an enemy unit, dealing magic damage and slowing their movement speed by a percentage and attack speed by 25% for 3 seconds.
- MAGIC DAMAGE: 85 / 130 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+ 100% AP)
- SLOW: 20% / 30% / 40% / 50% / 60%
This is what makes a Top Lane AP Nunu so frustrating, a 100% AP Ratio, which slows movement speed by 60%, attack speed by 25%, and with the right build deals MASSIVE damage. When using this with your passive in early laning, this is basically free harassment on your enemy.
R: Absolute Zero:
- RANGE: 1300
- COOLDOWN: 150 / 120 / 90
- COST: 150 Mana
ACTIVE: Nunu starts channeling and begins to sap a large area around him of heat, slowing all nearby enemies movement speed by 50% and attack speed by 25%. After channeling for 3 seconds, he deals massive damage to all enemies caught in the area. It can be canceled early for less damage.
- MAGIC DAMAGE: 625 / 875 / 1125(+ 250% AP)
This skill is what will determine the best AP Nunu players from the worst, timing on this skill is everything. If you use it correctly in team fights, then you will almost always win them. If you screw it up, well, there won't be much left for you to do. This skill is amazing, by the fact of its ratio, and slow, and the most important part of this skill, is that if you use it in a brush when enemies have no vision it it, they will not see you casting it. What this means is, that if you use your ultimate inside a brush, then enemies walking near the brush can get damaged and will not see it.
REQWYour ultimate should almost ALWAYS be maxed first, with Ice Blast being second because that will be your main source of damage, Consume, so you will have more lane sustain, and once you start putting more levels into your Blood Boil, that is when team fights start happening which is great because your blood boil has more levels being put into it.
I recommend not playing Top Lane Nunu with random players until you think you've fully mastered Nunu, his laning is generally very easy, but team fights are very rough for you if you do not know what you're doing, so I recommend playing with friends until you've gotten some experience.===Summoner Spells:=== Flash: Teleports your Champion to target nearby location under your mouse cursor. =-----= Why flash? Flash is basically the stronger summoner there is, basically allowing you to jump into the enemy, and just ult to either force panic, or force all hard crowd control on you. This summoner spell is basically core on almost everyone, because it grants those without and escape, an escape, and can be used as a gap closer also.
Ignite: Targets a single champion dealing 50 + (lvl x 20) true damage over 5 seconds. Also reduces the target's healing and regeneration by 50%.=-----= This summoner spell is another great one, it grants additional damage, and also helps against those with high sustain in fights. By using this combined with your other skills, there is a small chance they will be able to escape.
This spell is great for getting back to lane, but unless you plan on splitpushing with a Banner of Command, you really shouldn't take this because the best use it has early game helping a gank or countergank, or maybe taking dragon and getting somewhere fast.
This spell is great if you'd rather have durability over damage, because you can cast this while channeling your ult, and chances are most people will target you during your ult is being channeled. If you feel like you'd be better off taking damage for the team instead of better damage, then this is a great summoner spell.
You should only take this when jungling. No exceptions. You also already have a smite''
This summoner spell is great, but it is kind of redundant when you already have your Blood Boil. Blood Boil doesn't give as much speed, but it still gives you almost half of the boost at max rank.

http://i.imgur.com/DWaKlJm.jpgMy reasoning for this mastery build is because as a Top Lane AP Bruiser, you will want to be tanky with magic damage. But why didn't I get spell sword? It's simple, Nunu does not rely on his auto attacks except for last hitting or damage at all. Most bruisers you will find in top lane are AD, which is why I take the armor over magic resist and is also partially the reason why I did not take many magic resist runes.
===Items===The items you get on a Top Lane Nunu will vary on your opponent, but your general first items will be your Sorceror Boots, and a Liandry's Torment. Once you get these two items in lane, every Ice Blast you use on them will deal massive damage, and even if it doesn't because they build straight up Magic Resist items, then that money won't be used on damage items. Situational items are Void Staff, Zhonya's Hourglass, and Abyssal Scepter. Void Staff will only make good use of its money if the enemy team has begun stacking Magic Resist, in which case you should prioritize it. Zhonya's Hourglass is great for its activate, making you invulnuerable in the case you are focused, and Abyssal Scepter synergizes great with Liandry's and Sorcerer boots, and grants Magic Resist. You should generally only get Zhonya's Abyssal accordingly to whoever constantly targets you.

Some Common Annoying Lane Matchups
Nidalee: A decent Nidalee will do what they can to stay in brush and poke you with their autoattacks, but as long as you constantly harass them and ward the brush, they can't do much to you any more, especially with no crowd control able to stop your ultimate.Teemo: Teemos will usually build On-Hit for pushing power, or Ability Power and constantly harass you. Whenever they get in range of you, they will try to pelt you with darts. However, Teemo's Range is 525, and your Ice Blast has 550 range. So if they run up to you to try and harass you, you can Ice Blast them and run away and at most you will take a Blinding Dart or maybe and Auto attack or two. Teemos also have no crowd control for your ultimate, and because they are slowed, they will always have to flash out to avoid damage.Yorick: Yoricks are not very commmon, but they will constanly summon their ghouls to try to harass you, while healing from it. To you, they are just stacks of your passive and health for you. Try to get an early Seeker's Armguard for that armor to help block some of that damage.Jayce: Jayce is a very annoying laner, with team utility, percentage based damage, a powerful poke, and hard cc, which is a large threat to you. Jayce will try to poke you with his skills constantly, and then occasionally try to go in while he in melee form. Unless this Jayce is bad, it will be difficult to win the lane as he is able to push the lane and get good Mana regen. Try to constantly poke him with snowballs even if it means using Mana, because Jayce has no health regen of any sort, only a large amount of damage.Xin Zhao: Xin is a powerful ad duelist, with sustain, crowd control, tankiness, and even an armor reduction. Instead of just rushing a Sorcerer Boot's into Liandry's like normal, you should get a Seeker's Armguard before Haunting Guise. You will be kiling minions early game, which lets you get stacks on it, which means additional armor and ability power. Xin's greatest threat to you, however, is his knock up, which will stop your ultimate. What you should do, is that if he ever charges you, you should just Ice Blast him, wait for his Knock Up to be used, and then that is the time for when you should begin ulting. Now he has no escape, no crowd control, and no way to run. However, if he is smart enough to save his knock up for when you ult, then all you should do is just run and Ice blast him.Singed: Singed is best when he can run, which is an excellent thing Nunu is at stopping. Singed will ultimately win any fight if the enemy chases him, but Nunu doesn't chase, he stands still making a stronger nuke every second. In around early mid game, Singeds will usually go behind your tower to try and kil the minions, pushing his lane, this is also when Singed will have his Rod of Ages, and is also when he is too tanky for you to kill. So all you should try to do is just push the lane back. Your main goal early game is to try and kill him before he gets too tanky for you to kill him. To do this, you should try to reach level 6 before him, get him to fling you or a minion, and that is when you should go in for the kill with your flash and ult. Singed's ult grants him tenacity which reduces slows, one of your greatest strengths, grants him movespeed, and additional magic resist. If he is level 6 when you try to kill him, he will most likely end up getting away.Elise: A good Elise will be hell for any champion she is up against. Against you, it is just as horrible as you playing Top Nunu. Elise's main harassment skill deals health percentage damage, she has a escape which makes her untargetable making any kills for her almost useless, and a skillshot stun. There is almost nothing you can do to kill her, and the most you can do it just harass equally with her. In this situation, you should focus on stalemating the lane, and just building tanky for the lategame. But when it comes to lategame, instead of fighting in the middle, you should try to protect your carries from her, because she will most likely target them first, and your Ice Blast decreases her damage by a large amount.Jax: Jax will be very easy to harass early game, because he has no ranged harass. However, what makes him strong is that he has an Area of Effect stun, which he can activate after a short time of dodging attacks. Your main goal against a Jax will be to deny him as much farm as possible, because if he gets just the right amount of farm, then the game is practically over lategame as he will destroy your entire team. Like normal, just build Magic Pen and just zone him away from the minions, to deny him exp, and gold. If you are successful, then Jax will be weak lategame. If you are unable to zone him from this however, maybe due to enemy jungle ganks, then you should focus and Ice Blasting him every time, because his passive Grants him extra attack speed, and his ultimate damage relies on his attack speed.Olaf: Olaf is similar in a way to Jax, as in if you let him farm too much, then you might as well call it game. Olaf's main difference however,is how his ultimate makes him immune to ALL crowd control, including your Ice Blast, and Absolute Zero. This doesn't mean it still blocks the damage however, but the most you can do to try and stop him is by Blood Boiling your carry, and just praying they know how to run. In laning however, most of Olaf's return harass will be from his axes which deal hefty slow, and his true damage. His axes are very difficult to lane against someone who can keep a speed steroid up, meaning you should generally not have much problem dodging them. His true damage on the other hand, can deal massive damage to, but on the other hand, they can only be used in a short range, so as long as you keep your distance, you should not have much trouble harassing Olaf a lot.===Basic Strategies=== Constantly harass your opponent with an Ice Blast, and try to do this when your passive is ready. This will allow for some free damage on them, while saving your Mana for the consume for when they harass you back. Eventually after many Ice Blasts to them, they will be low, at this time you should just zone them by running towards them making it look like you are about to throw an Ice Blast at them, but try to restrain yourself from doing so, as usually one more will force them to go back to base. Instead, once they go in to try to get a last hit, flash to them and begin to ult, and as soon as they almost exit it stop your ult by running towards them, Ice blast them, and Ignite. Lategame in teamfights try to communicate with your team by asking them to fight near a brush so that they can bait them into your ultimate.===Early Game=== Like I said in the Basic Strategies section, you should try to constantly harass your opponent with snowballs with your passive, and heal up any damage you take from their own harassment. Be sure to ward your lane near the river brush most of the time, the tribrush also, and if they seem to be camping in the lane brush then go ahead and ward there. Depending on any stealth champions you face, you should either place Vision Wards in the middle of the lane against an Akali, and place one in the river brush/tribrush, and one in lane against a Teemo.. However, in the rare situation where you lose your lane (maybe due to a large amount of ganks), you should shift towards building tanky because an AP bruiser with no farm whose job is to jump into the middle of the enemy team will become very useless. Your first items should try to be a Sorcerer Boots, and Liandry's Torment. This allows your harassment to become almost true damage. Once you reach 6, you should try to aim for a kill. Try to harass them until they get about half health, and then flash ult them! This usually catches people off guard for the first time, and will just react by trying to flash out or run out. If you were able to catch them right next to you, then it will almost be a for sure kill, because if they try to attack you and stay inside the circle, that's just more damage on them. Even if they have a blink or dash to get out, you should still be able to catch up with them, and remember, you can activate your ult early for less damage so try to do that. The next main item you get after your two magic penetration items will vary on the situation. If you think that the enemy ADs will target you, then get a Zhonya's Hourglass. If you're extremely fed, just get a Rabadons Deathcap and a Void Staff, and against an AP who threatens you, then get an Abyssal Scepter.===Mid Game=== Mid game is when teamfights start beginning to happen, again, try to communicate with your team to try and lure enemies to your ult while in brush. If you can't do this, then just wait for when the fight begins and the enemy all groups up, that's the perfect time to flash and ult. Also, try to wait for the enemy team to use their hard crowd control, because it is likely someone will save it just for when you use your ultimate. Whenever you are with your team just walking around trying to harass the enemy, you should try to always have Blood Boil on your AD Carry. And when it comes to assisting in harassing the enemy, you should always try to Ice Blast the enemy AD Carry first, because they will most likely have the least Magic Resist, and with your Magic Pen Items, you are sure to deal tons of damage to them. Also, be sure to know that you are able to consume Champion Summons/Minions, such as Annie's Tibbers, Heimerdinger's Turrets, and even Malzahar's Voidlings.===Late Game=== This is when deaths really begin to matter, and is when you are extremely powerful. In large teamfights, you should always Blood Boil your allied AD Carry, Ice Blast the enemy Ad Carry, and wait for the perfect moment to use your ultimate, The right timing of your ultimate can make drastic changes in these teamfights, and even decide whether you win or lose. Additionally, your consume when maxed out, deals 900 true damage to minions and monsters! This makes it great for taking baron as it can act as a second Smite for your team. Be sure to help your team ward the enemy jungle, because with your Blood Boil you can catch up to them, and with your Ice Blast you can slow them down to nothing. If the enemy ends up splitpushing, and no one else needs farm, you might as well go push it back because you can Blood Boil minions to help push the lane, along with your 900 true damage to minions. If you feel like you just aren't able to do anything other than your Blood Boil and Consume because they stacked Magic Resist, then just sell them for tanky support items, such as an Aegis of the Legion, or a Banner of the Command. Using Banner of the Command to promote a minion, and then Blood Boiling it makes for some great splitpushing, which may even allow your team to catch someone alone, and end the game.===Some Basic Unexpected Things===
Hey they also have a Top Lane AP Nunu! Wat do? Well first of all, don't even bother trying to win unless they are just an idiot. The most anyone will do at equal levels will just stalemate the lane because if one tries to flash ult the other, they will just ult also for an equal exchange. So the best you can do is ask "Good sir Nunu, would you like to hold a peaceful lane while we exchange cheese and wine?"
What do I do if their entire team has a large amount of hard CC? Well, the most you can do is just build more of a tanky AP yourself, because you will most likely not get many fully charged ultimates off. Some great items for this situation are Abyssal Scepter and Banner of Command.
