"Free to play, pretty good game, but it's no DotA: Allstars"
One of the better DotA-likes or clones out there (I'd personally rank it below Heroes of Newerth, however).
LoL is an AoS-type game (Aeon of Strife); it is a multiplayer team-based game consisting of two teams playing against each other (3v3 or 5v5 available). You control a single hero (a champion; a powerful character that can learn up to four different skills + a passive ability, buy items and various powerups in the forms of statboosting Elixirs, gain experience and so on), chosen at game start. Note that every match is instanced, and nothing actually carries over from match to match.
Outside of the "battlefield", the player is a Summoner, in possession of a runebook and masteries (both of which have an ingame effect and give various customizable bonuses to the player's chosen champion). The Summoner gains levels through experience earned by playing the game, along with Influence Points (an ingame currency used to permanently unlock heroes and runes), up to Summoner level 30.
The object of the game is to destroy the opposing team's Nexus (a structure located deep within their base). The Nexus can only be reached by traversing lanes, which are defended by turrets (sentry towers) that must be destroyed before the team can push on. Waves of minions spawn in the team bases and move out to engage the enemy forces. Minions are weak by themselves and require hero support to accomplish much of anything, but are vital during a push as they draw turret fire.
Heroes can be customized in numerous ways, by using different skillbuilds or items ingame and by rearranging masteries/runes outside of the match.
This game is very forgiving to the new player as it lacks traditional DotA mechanics, such as creep denying or gold lost upon death, both of which are very important in defining the difference between a good and bad player (and end up giving the good player a great, snowballing advantage).
As for numerical ratings:
*Visual* - 7/10. Cellshaded, clear-cut. Takes some getting used to, however. New players may find things to be very hectic at first.
*Audio* - 5/10. Nothing special or memorable in any way.
*Replayability* - 10/10. Lots of options, different heroes to choose from.
*Gameplay* - 8/10. Fun, if you like the kind of game this is.
*Community* - 3/10. People...tend to flame a lot, especially newer and inexperienced players. Don't expect to have fun until you get better.
Reviewer's Rating: 4.0 - Great
