"Metal Gear Solid 3 Transcends the Gaming world...."

After the success of the past two Metal Gear Solid titles, fans around the world were wondering whether this third installment could truly live up to the hype of its predeccesors. Well, I'm telling you right now; this is the best Metal Gear Solid game of the series and perhaps the best video game to be released in 2004.

Graphics: 10/10
After the stunning visuals presented in Sons of Liberty, it's hard to believe that Snake Eater could improve on it, but of course it does. Every enviroment and landscape is incredibly detailed. When you're in the jungle for example, you can see even the most minute of details such as insects or spots on leaves or individual blades of grass. The characters, whether it be the heroes or the villains look perfect. Funny little tidbits are strategically placed around different enviroments such as famous magazines, videos, and books. As for the cinematic cutscenes, they're incredibly detailed and look exactly as they should. The graphics in Metal Gear Solid 3 are the absolute best you'll ever get with the visual power of the Playstation 2.

Gameplay: 9/10
The gameplay is somewhat similar to the gameplay that took place in the first two installments; however, there are some added options and a few improvements. Since this game takes place in the past, the radar system from the pat two games are nowhere to be found here. Instead, you use a motion detector system which is far more challenging. Basically, anytime any object gets close to you, the detector makes a sound and gives you an idea where the object in question is. Also, the device uses a form of battery power which lowers with each use. Another great addition is the camouflage system that players will need to take advantage of in order for Snake to survive in a few specific enviroments. All the same stealthy fun stuff can still be done such as hiding in small places, peering around corners, and of course sneaking up behind somebody just to break their neck. Also of note is the fact that the enemies in this game are a lot harder and a lot smarter than previous enemies you faced in the past Metal Gear Solid Games. All in all, the gameplay is great and you'll get no complaints from me.

Sound: 10/10
The sound in this game is the best of any previous Metal Gear Solid title. The music fits perfectly with your surroundings and the natural sound effects are tremendously well done. All small details are presently incredibly well. For example, if a snake slithers in the grass you will actually hear the grass shuffling as the animal moves. The voice acting in the game is very well done. The same actor that portraye Snake in the past two games is back once again and does a superb job. The lips almost fit exactly with the words presented and the emotion of the voices are very fitting for each individual situation. It's not the most important part of a game like this, but for what it's worth, it does an excellent job in this department.

Story: 10/10
Basically, the storyline takes place in the 1960's. You're placed in a Russian jungle during the midst of the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. That's just a basic introduction to the incredible storyline that will eventually develop as you keep playing.

This is the true heart of this video game. Metal Gear Solid 3 contains an excellent storyline that spins a web of intrigue, suspense, and action. Unlike Matla Gear Solid 2, this game does a fine job tying up lose ends of its own storyline by the end of the game. It's very interesting to watch some of your favorite Metal Gear Solid characters when they were a lot younger and had a sort of "different" outlook on life. There are some incredible plot twists that you won't see coming at all and some plot occurences that may anger a lot of Metal Gear Solid fans. You'll meet all new characters and learn a heck of a lot more about all the different characters you already know and admire today. The storyline is so good, that when you pass the game, you might literally stand up and clap in front of your TV.

Replayability: 8/10
Replay has never been a strong point in the Metal Gear Solid series due to its incredible storyline. However, in Metal Gear Solid 3, you'll feel the urge to play the game through at least once more BECAUSE of the storyline. Without spoiling anything for anybody, let's just say that to understand fully what takes place, you'll have to go through it again.

Overall: 10/10
This is a definite buy for any video game fan. Metal Gear Solid 3 is a historic video that will be talked about for years.(or at least until Metal Gear Solid 4 is released) Forget about renting the game, the only way to go is to own this masterpiece for your own collection. Trust me, if you don't buy it you'll regret it.
