"Can Paul's hair grow any longer?"
Tekken. My favorite fight game series is back and better than ever with Tekken 5. Tekken 5 basically forgets Tekken 4 ever happened and just goes back to basics. Take Tekken 3, give it phenomenal graphics, even better gameplay, new moves, and a few new characters, and what have you got? An awesome game.
The gameplay in Tekken 5 is awesome. While it doesn't do anything new for the series, it does offer a game that is just fun to play. And that is something that a lot of games haven't been able to do as of late. The control is very tight. And I mean VERY tight. Tekken 5 makes the transition from arcade to the home console very well. Namco also put a 3D sidequest called Devil Within. Devil Within is a 3D adventure game in which you go around and just beat up everything in sight. Honestly, it's not that great, but it didn't hurt to throw it in. Namco also threw in the Arcade Versions of Tekken 1-3 to celebrate Tekken's 10th anniversary. You can't save and there aren't any endings, but you definitely can't complain. Namco even threw in a customization feature so you can personalize your characters a bit. Now, it's mostly just small additions to your outfit, but you can also change the color of the outfit. You can also buy an extra outfit for some characters. While the customization feature isn't the greatest, it is a step in the right direction.
The graphics are easily the best I have seen on the PS2. You won't believe how good these graphics are. It looks good in screenshots and it looks unbelievable in real life. This game looks more like a top quality Xbox game than a PS2 game.
The sound in Tekken 5 is good but not great. All of the hits sound good and satisfying. Most of the music is pretty good, but there are a few songs in there that are pretty bad. It's the same story with the voice acting. There are some good voices and some that will make you want to pull our your hair. It's a mixed bag all around.
The story in Tekken 5 isn't good, but for a fighting game, it's not bad. Each character has their own CG ending, and some of them are quite funny. Other than that, each character really doesn't have much of a story. Fortunately, you don't buy a fighting game for its story.
Play time/Replayability 9/10
You will spend a long time with Tekken 5. With customization, plenty of modes, and more than 30 characters, you will get your money's worth. And if you have a friend to play with, you could play forever. It is just that fun.
Go buy Tekken 5 right now. It is just fun to play. If you are REALLY unsure about it, rent it first, but I am sure you will want to buy it after you rent it. Tekken 5 is worth your money. It has everything you need to make a fun game. Just go buy it. You won't regret it.
