Greatest Super Hero game, ever. Period. No discussion.

In the midst of so many shooters(Gears of War, Resistance) and RPGs(Final Fantasy 12, Kingdom Hearts 2), it's good to see a game that really can't be defined. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance is tagged as an Action/RPG, but the game is so much more than that. With massive swarms of enemies, enormous bosses to take on, and long list of playable characters, this game creates an identity of its own, and goes light years ahead of its predecessors, the X-Men Legends games.

From the very beginning, you are greeted with yet another of the beautiful cinematics that have been the trademark of these games. With Dr. Doom attacking the S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier, Nick Fury sends an S.O.S to all meta-humans. First to show up are Thor, Captain America, Wolverine and Spider-Man. This motley crew will be your starting team, but once you complete a portion of the prologue level you will be able to change out your current team for 4 of nearly 20 characters available immediately. You will be astounded by the sheer variety and power that these characters present. Each character plays exactly like there comic-book counterpart, with the Thing using massive punches and charges to barrel through enemies, while Deadpool will jump/teleport right into the masses, swinging his sword and pouring lead into anyone who dares get in his way.

But the amount of characters is just one of the many, many outstanding features. The story follows Dr. Doom and his newly created Masters of Evil (If you've read Marvel comics, you'll know that Baron Zemo once created a Masters of Evil, but Doom's is totally separate) as they go from one amazing locale to another. The areas in which you are sent will astound you. From fighting in the underwater depths of Atlantis, to infiltrating the Skrull homeworld, the places you travel are a highlight of this game, and are certainly going to amaze you every time you play through the game.

The boss battles are just another highlight. The entire Marvel Universe is covered, as you'll fight well known villains such as Bullseye and Rhino, to lesser known antagonists, like Attuma and Dragon Man. you'll also fight some of the largest and most powerful bosses ever seen in the Marvel Universe, such as Loki, Blackheart, Mephisto, and even Galactus himself. However, not all battles can be won by brute strength. Ultimate Alliance calls for you to use brains in many of your boss battles. You will have to complete various mini-game like tasks to complete your battle. These can range from grabbing a spear, then running rup a frost giant's arm, then plunging it into the back of his neck, to being shot out of a circus cannon, landing on a giant robot, then causing said robot to punch himself. However, these thing aren't nearly as easy as you think. You'll be forced to press various buttons in various orders to complete those tasks.

Overall, Ultimate Alliance is a perfect game. Graphics, game play, replay value, voice-acting, everything shines in this one-of-a-kind gem. Don't miss this game!
