                                 {1.0} Introduction
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

NBA 2K7 for the PS2 is like an upgraded NBA 2K6, it's previous installment.
Although it's not as great as the X-Box 360 version, it can still hold it's
own. In my opinion, it's definitely better than Live. I know that there isn't
too much coverage on the game, so I'll do my best to spit out some information
from the game into the little text document to help all you ballers out. If
I'm missing anything, give me a shout and I'll add it in with your name on it.
    I hope this helps.

                                   {2.0} Controls
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

There are many different controls in the game. NBA 2K7 makes use of pretty
much every button on the PS2 controller. I'm only going to list the basic
controls here. Look up the other sections for more in-depth coverage of
slightly more advanced moves such as IsoMotion and Triple Threat moves.

                                    {3.0} Scoring
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Scoring is really

    Basic Shooting:
    ---------------
Shooting is a fundamental of the game. Shooting in this game is really easy.
While you're on offense, pull back the right analog stick for about a second.
When you see your player at the peak of his jump, release it. Try it in
practice mode a few times and you'll have a perfect release in no time. The
right analog stick in this game is also called the shot stick. I'll refer to
it with this name in some points of this FAQ.

Remember, having a perfect release doesn't mean that your shot will go in. If
you're covered heavily by a man or you just have poor shooting skills, your
shot will still probably not make it in. However, you have a greater chance
of making a tough shot with a perfect release.

Some players in the game have a signature shot. This changes the timing of
the release point, but your goal is still pretty much the same. Release the
right analog stick at the peak of that player's jump. Some guys I find are
easier to shoot with, such as Shawn Marion.

The last thing that I want to mention is that any shooting move where you
release the ball can also be done with square. I greatly prefer using the

    Fadeaways:
    ----------
A more advanced shot is the fadeaway, where you're moving in a direction while
shooting the ball. A fadeaway requires a lot of skill to use especially at a
distance, so try not avoid using these shots unless you're Kobe Bryant. The
chances of it going in are rather low. To do a fadeaway, til the left analog
stick while shooting like normal with the right analog stick.

    Layups and Dunks:
    -----------------
These two moves are most often used during fastbreaks or quick moves to the
basket. They are great moves to get easy buckets. To perform them, start
running by pressing R1, then release it when you're near the basket and move
the shot stick to the right for a right handed layup, left for a left handed
layup, or down for a reverse layup. The reverse layup has a lower chance of
going in and is one of the more fancy moves. You don't need to release with
the proper timing for layups and dunks.

To dunk the ball, run towards the basket by holding R1, then move the shot
stick while still holding R1 to dunk. Press Up for a normal, two handed dunk,
right for a power dunk, or left for a fancy dunk. Although you don't need to
release the shot stick like you would in a jumpshot, a two handed dunk will
always have the highest chance of going in. Not all players can do fancy or
power dunks, in which case they'll just do a normal one. Guys like Wade or
Lebron can do fancy dunks, but other dudes like Eddy Curry can't. However,
Eddy Curry CAN do a power dunk, while other players like Dan Dickau can't.
I don't think Dan Dickau can even touch the rim. When a player can't dunk
(decided by dunk tendency and their dunk rating), they'll just do a layup no
    matter what you do.

The different kinds of dunks have different uses. Try to use a normal two
handed dunk most of the time. Power dunks are good when you're in traffic AND
inside the 3-second line in the paint. If you do a power dunk at a distance,
chances are that you'll get called for a charge. Most big men can use power
dunks. Using them in the paint is a great idea. Power dunks have slightly less
of a chance of going in than a normal dunk.

Fancy dunks are for pure show. They have a lower chance of going in than power
dunks, and only a few players can do them. That's really it to them...

    Scoring From the Post:
    ----------------------
Scoring from the post is as bit different that just shooting or doing layups.
First of all, there are a whole different set of IsoMotion moves that you do
while in the post. Big men can also do different moves than others. Guy like
Shaq can power down a dunk by pressing R1 + Shot Stick ->, but others like
Ha Seung Jin or Zaza Pachulia can't. However, Zaza is more skilled at doing
moves like the hook shot. Even more, if you have Tracy McGrady in the post
around midrange, you might even think about pulling out for a fadeaway jumper
by tilting the shot stick in any direction.

To bang a player in the post, just press up on the left analog stick while
holding L1 in the post position. You can always pull back or pass out if
necessary. Each player has different capabilities in the post. Some can't
back in players as well as others. Keep this in mind when controlling your
    offense.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                                {4.0} Playing Defense
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Defense is the other half of the game. Defending your opponent is just as
important as scoring, if not more. Your main goal of defense is simple: stop
the opponent from scoring. If you accomplish this mission, you will surely
    win the game.

    Basic Defense:
    --------------
Playing defense in this game is quite simple. While your opponent has the
ball, press X and the game will make you control the player closest to that
player. Now that you're in front of that player, you want to stop him from
scoring. If he starts to move left and right, press L1 to stay in defensive
strife and stick to the opposing player.

If the player decides to shoot, press Triangle or up on the right analog stick
to jump for the block. Hold R1 while jumping to have more power in your block,
but a greater chance of fouling.

Although having strong defensive awareness, steal, and block stats are
important, reading your opponent's moves and matchups are more important. If
you're guarding Kyle Korver near the three point line, play TIGHT defense.
This means to stay up close to him so that if he attempted a shot, it will
probably be blocked or he'll miss the shot, despite having a high three point
rating. The opposite goes to a player with a poor three point shot, such as
Tony Parker. Since you don't have to worry as much about him hitting the
three, you can play more LOOSE defense, meaning you can back off a bit to
better prevent the drive, his main way of scoring. Sure, Tony can attempt the
three, but what are the chances of him making it? Not very high.

When playing defense, be sure to have a good matchup. Don't have guys like
Shaq guarding Kobe. No matter how well you read Kobe, Shaq doesn't have the
speed or stats to guard him. Kobe can easily run past Shaq or cross him over
to the basket. However, if you put someone like Paul Pierce or T-Mac on him,
things will be a little different.

Height is a great advantage when you're playing defense. If you have a player
that is fast and tall, they can run with quick players like Stephon Marbury
to prevent their driving abilities, and be tall enough to block the shot in
case the opponent ever tries to shoot over you.

Don't think that a block is always nessecary. Just like in real life, if you
play good enough defense to make the opponent miss, it's good enough. Just
rebound and get back on offense.

    Stealing:
    ---------
To steal the ball, use the right analog stick. Tilting it up makes the player
jump up. Left or right makes the player dive in that respective direction if
the ball has left the player's hands already. If it hasn't, your player will
just swipe at the ball in an attempt to knock it loose. Like blocking a shot,
you can hold R1 to have a greater chance of knocking the ball loose, but also
a greater chance of causing a foul. Either way, the more you attempt to steal
in a certain time period, the greater the chance of you being called for a
    reach in foul.

The key to stealing the ball is to react well to your opponents actions. If
the opponent is holding the ball or dribbling the ball away from you, the
chances of you picking his pocket is rather low. However, if your opponent
lobs a pass across the court, press up on the right analog stick and you'll
    most likely grab it.

Stats are also key to knowing when to steal the ball. Usually, centers like
Shaq and Yao have low handling stats. If you use a player with a high steal
stat such as Gerald Wallace, you'll have a high chance of stealing from a
    big man in the post.

    Defending the Post:
    -------------------
The post is a much more statistical battle. If you have Dwight Howard on
Jamaal Tinsley, Dwight Howard will win the battle. There's no way a little
guy can guard such a big player. No matter what you do, Dwight Howard will
always be able to back you into the paint.

When your opponent gets into post position and starts to back you in, there's
nothing that you can do about it. You CAN however, guard against their shot.
They have several options, such as the in and out, hook shot, and fadeaway
jumper. The best you can do is guess what they're going to do. If you're
really deep in the paint, the big man can easily dunk over you for an easy
bucket. You can jump for the block, but often times you'll get called for the
foul. The post is really hard to defend, and it usually requires a double
team. If you decide to do this, be sure to keep your eye on the man that the
help defender left. Double teaming will usually stop the opponent from dunking
over you and can tie him up. You can knock the ball loose or cause a jump
ball, which is good. However, there is the disadvantage that if the big man
manages to pass out to the open man, you'll have to rush there or rotate to
    guard him.

    Defensive Rotation:
    -------------------
When your opponent runs a fast offense and is on a fast break, you MUST defend
the player with the all, no matter how bad the mismatch. Having a man there
is better than no one. If you successfully prevent the break and slow down
the offense, you must now deal with bad matchups such as Diop on Hinrich or
Nate Robinson on Yao Ming. Although it's very good that you stopped the easy
two points from the fast break, you must still stop their organized offense.
When two players get close to each other, just move to the other player's
defender and the computer will automatically switch. How nice. :)

    Help Defense:
    -------------
If the opponent manages to sneak by you and drive to the basket, you won't be
able to catch up to them. Unlike in NBA 2K6, this game will send help defense
to your aid. Other players will come(usually a big man or whoever is near the
paint) and try to stop the bucket. If you successfully stopped the easy
bucket, you'll now have to rotate back to the proper men to avoid mismatches.

    Playing Without the Ball:
    -------------------------
If you find that the computer is adequate enough to guard the opponent, you
might feel like playing without the ball. If you decide to do this, try to
stay in front of your man. The main goal of playing without the ball is to
deny the pass. Clog the passing lane and stay in front of your man. If the
computer doesn't guard the opponent well enough and he gets away, don't forget
    to help out.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                              {5.0} On the Fly Settings
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

NBA 2K7 features a new way to access your settings while playing a game.
Called On the Fly Settings, all you have to do is press left, right, or down
to access a menu while playing the game. This is an easy way to set things
    to your liking.

    Left - Coach Settings
    ---------------------
This menu has all sorts of options that allow you to change to your style. If
you like to run a high tempo, fast paced team like the Phoenix Suns, you can
    do that here.

Timeout - You can set this option to auto or manual. On auto, the game will
automatically use a timeout for you. Timeouts restore some fatigue
and cools off "hot" players. I set this to manual.
Substitution - Like timeout, this option allows you to switch the default
automatic substitutions to manual. I keep this at manual because
the game sometimes subs players that are not fatigued or ones that
              are hot.
Int. Foul - This is intentional foul. Late in the game, your players will
automatically foul players if the game is close and you're behind.
I have this set on default, which is auto without a message. You
can set it so that a message pops out when intentional fouling comes
into effect, or manual with or without a message.
Offensive Tempo - This sets the tempo of your team. A higher tempo means that
your players will work harder for garbage buckets and run more on
the court. It consumes more stamina at higher levels. This is really
up to you and how you like to play.
Defensive Pressure - Like offensive tempo, change this based on your own
style. A higher defensive pressure warrants more fouls, but less
              buckets will go in.
Box out - Fast break - You can set this so your players will go more for the
defensive rebound or run back to start a fast break for an easy
bucket. Each side has its pros and cons.
Get back - Offensive board - Similar to the previous stat. You can either have
your players get back on defense or try to go for an offensive
              rebound.

    Right - Play Call
    -----------------
This brings up a menu where you can access all the plays that you set to the
buttons. You can change it to whatever you like in the playbooks menu during
the game. I'll be going through the default ones here.

    (Offense)
    Triangle - Quick Screen
    Square - Post Up
    Circle - Isolation
    X - Pick and Roll
    R2 - 3pt SF Curl
    R1 - 3pt SG Spotup
    L2 - 3pt SG Screen
    L1 - 3pt PG PickPop

    (Defense)
    Triangle - Halfcourt Trap
    Square - Fullcourt Press
    Circle - 2-3 Zone
    X - Man to Man
    R2 - Fullcourt Trap
    R1 - Box and 1 Zone
    L2 - 1-3-1 Zone
    L1 - 3-2 Zone

    Down - Substitutions
    --------------------
This is the most useful option in my opinion. Pressing down brings you to the
sub menu. Press left and right on the player you want to switch out and find
the player you want to come in. The game will also show you one stat that
player has, being fatigue. However, you can change that by pressing L2 and R2.

                                {6.0} IsoMotion Moves
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Isomotion is NBA 2K's freestyle control that allows you to do all kinds of
tricks with your players. All you have to do is hold L1 or R1 and move the
left or right analog stick in a number of ways. You can do killer crossovers,
spin moves, and all sorts of moves. Here's a list of known techniques that you
can do. Remember that not all players can do all the moves.

If I'm missing any(which I'm sure I am...) please tell me about it via E-mail,
located at the top of this document.

Stutter Move: Tap and release R1.
Hard Drive: Hold R1 and push up at a slight angle. Your player will lean
forward a little and move a bit faster.
Hard Crossover: Hold R1 and move your left analog stick from right to left or
left to right, depending on which hand is dribbling the ball.
Hesitation Crossover: Hold R1 and L1 and do the same as the hard crossover.
In & Out: Do the hesitation crossover, then throw the left analog stick back
towards the hand with the ball.
Behind the back: Hold R1 and rotate the left stick in a semicircle downwards
from the ball hand to the offhand.
Spin: Do the behind the back move except holding L1 and R1.
Step Back: Hold R1 and move the left stick away from the player's movement
               direction.
Half Spin: Do the Step Back move except holding L1 and R1.
Stutter Drive: Tap and release R1, then do the drive move tilting your control
stick at an angle towards the basket.
Stutter Cross: Tap and release R1, then chain into the crossover move by
moving the left stick from the ball hand to the off hand.
Hop Step: Press triangle while driving to the hole.
Hop Step Spin: Press R1 while doing the hop step move.
Hop Back: Press back while doing the hop step move.

    Triple Threat Moves:
    --------------------
These moves are done before you start dribbling and while holding down L1 and
    R1.

Jab Step: Move the left stick right or left.
Step Over: Move the left stick up.
Head Fake: Move the left stick back.
Protect Ball: Move the left stick back.

                               {7.0} Playing the Game
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Playing the game is pretty self explanatory for the most part. I'm sure that
most players here have played basketball before or watched the NBA and know
most of the rules. NBA 2K7 follows all the rules of a normal NBA game. You
can change it if you like though in the options menu.

When playing a game, most of the important numbers are on the gray bar on the
bottom of the screen. From left to right, you have the away and home scores,
quarter number, game clock, and shot clock.

You might also notice some symbols next to the player's name. This means that
they have a strong attribute. Here's what each symbol means:

    Hand: Defense
    Crosshair: Shooting
    3: 3-point shooting
    Lightningbolt: Quick
Star: Excellent all around player, above 88 overall rating

To win a jump ball, tap Square like mad. It's usually pretty hopeless on
    higher difficulties.

Find your own style when playing the game. Know each player on your team's
strength and weaknesses. Don't go shooting 3's with Eddy Curry and don't use
Nate Robinson as a pick. Find an offensive game that you like, whether it's
running and gunning like the Phoenix Suns or pounding the ball to the middle
like the LA Clippers. You can even isolate every time with Kobe if that works
for you. Nobody can or will complain in this game.

During the game, you might find that the computer has a great adavantage over
some players and you want to switch player matchups. Just press Start, go to
Coaching, then Player Matchups. This is a really useful menu where you can
assign defenders to players, how you want to play them, and when to double
if necessary. You can also see the players' fatigue, height and weight, and
    rating.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                                     {8.0} Modes
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

When you load up the game, after you press Start you'll see a menu leading to
many options and modes. I'll describe each one here, with an exception of
Association/Season which will get a more in-depth look in its own section.

    ==============================================================================
                                   (8.1) Main Modes
    ==============================================================================

    Quick Game
    ----------
Exactly what it says. Two teams will be picked(your favorite will be picked
if you have a loaded VIP) and press Start and start playing. No need to change
    rules, no need for anything.

    Association/Season
    ------------------
These two modes are basically the same. You take control of your favorite
franchise and try to make a run to the championship. In season mode, you'll
have a few less options since it's only for one season. For association mode,
you'll take it for as long as you want. You get to draft rookies, trade
players, and all of that stuff. More explained in its own section.

    Street
    ------
This is a crappified version of quick game. You get to choose whether you want
to play a full court game, a half court game, one on one, or a game of 21.
You get to select the number of points to win the game, which players you want
to use, who gets the first posession, win by two, time of day, weather, where
you want to play, and so on. There are no fouls and VIP records won't be
    saved.

    Tournament
    ----------
Choose a certain number of teams to take place in a tournament. You can choose
to have multiple players control the teams. The teams are assigned to a
bracket and you win games to make it to the final round. The team that wins
the finals is declared the winner. Yay!

    Practice
    --------
You can practice moves by yourself here, or against a another player. Choose
the team that you want to practice with and you'll find yourself in an open
gym. Here, the game will tell you the quality of your shot when you release
it. You can practice your Isomotion moves, triple threat, and others. You
can't practice defense here, however. There's also a free throw practice for
you to practice the release for your free throws.

    Situation
    ---------
Create a situation for yourself. Choose two teams, seconds left on the clock
or shot clock, which quarter it is, and other options. Basically, it lets you
relive a situation. Can T-Mac really get 13 in 35 now?

    ==============================================================================
                                    (8.2) Options
    ==============================================================================

This isn't really the same menu that you get when you pause during a game.
There are a few more things you can do in the main menu.

    Manage Roster -

    Team Roster
    -----------
You can manage your roster here. Choose Team Rosters to move around players
to different teams, change their jersey number, their tendencies, stats, and
appearances. Keep in mind you can't touch the premade teams such as 90's West
Allstars. Keep in mind, any moves that you make must be SAVED.

    Team Lineups
    ------------
Change the lineups for a team. Does Chris Webber now play off the bench? You
    can change that here.

    Create a Player
    ---------------
Here, you can create your own player. Granted, the options aren't very wide
in the PS2/XBox versions. In fact, it's still the same as in 2K6, which was
the same as 2K5. Cool, huh? You might not care, but the 360's CAP mode has
improved. Anyway, in CAP Mode, you can choose a player's name, their looks,
skin color, stats, tendencies, a bit more. Only 10 CAPs can be made.

    Create Team
    -----------
Choose 12-15 of your favorite players and see what happens when they're put
together. You can only use this team in Quick Game. Only 2 teams can be made.

    Playbooks
    ---------
I usually leave this alone. This allows you to set shortcuts for the plays of
all the teams in the game.

    Reset Roster
    ------------
If you were fucking around a lot with the roster, select this option and it'll
go right back to default. This will delete your CAPs, roster moves, stats
changes, and so on. It'll be like you had never touched it.

    Coach Settings
    --------------
This allows you to set Timeouts and Substitutions to manual or auto. You can
also choose to show a message when the game chooses a play for you, or when
    you manually do it yourself.

    Controller Setup

    ==============================================================================
                                   (8.3) Features
    ==============================================================================

    The Crib
    --------
Here, you can use your points that were earned by accomplishing a few
achievements during games. You can look around your place. Press Start to
open up the menu and buy some decorations. Most of these decorations won't
do anything. Some though, like Air Hockey, unlocks a mini-game.

    VIP
    ---
A great feature. When you first buy the game, you are prompted to create a
VIP. After playing games, you can choose to save your VIP. What this does it
saves the box score of the previous game and several tendencies that you do.
You can view in your tendencies report your strengths and weaknesses and what
you tend to do. Then, when you start a game, you can choose to assign a VIP,
whether it be yours or someone else's. The computer will then play like the
assigned VIP, whether they pump fake a lot or run a high tempo. It's great
practice for trying to beat a difficult opponent.

    2K Beats
    --------
You can change what tunes you want to hear during the menus here. There's also
    some information about each artist.

    Arena Music
    -----------
Here, you can set what songs you want to hear when playing on the court.
Choose a snippet of the song that you want to hear and it'll occasionally play
on a fast break or other time in a game.

    Codes
    -----
You can enter codes here. As more codes are discovered, I'll be sure to place
them in the codes section. These codes can unlock jersies, new teams, shoes,
    and others.

    ==============================================================================
                                    (8.4) Others
    ==============================================================================

Here are a few other options that you can tinker with or check out.

    Extras
    ------
You can view the credits, do a sound test, and view the ingame manual guide.
    Nothing to die over.

    Load/Save
    ---------
This game has different save files. You can choose to save a roster file, a
VIP, Settings, and others. You can also load your files as things like your
Roster or Association file won't load automatically.

    Online
    ------
If you have a wireless router and the Sony Online Adaptor, you can go online
    and play your friends here.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                               {9.0} Sliders Explained
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

You'll notice that there a bunch of sliders that you can change in the main
menu under My NBA or several other options. Some of you guys don't know what
they all do, so I'll explain here.

Press Start to change between your settings and your opponent's settings.

    Shooting:
    ---------
Close Range Shot Success These sliders all affect how well you
Mid Range Shot Success shoot the ball. The lower the bar, the
3-Point Shot Success lower your chance of making that shot.
    Dunk Success
    Layup Success
    Free Throw Success

    Tendencies:
    -----------
Flashy Passing These don't really affect you when you
Fouling play the game. These control the CPU's
Pass Intercept tendencies. The higher it is, the more
Onball Steal likely they are to do something. For
Contest Shot example, a higher three point tendency
Close Shot means that the team will shoot more threes
Midrange than a team with low three point tendency.
3pt Each player also has their own set of
Drive tendencies which affect what they do as
Dunk well. These are all fairly self-
    Dunk in Traffic explanatory.
    Back to Basket
    Triple Threat
    Fadeaway
    Hookshot
    Putback

    Defense
    -------
    Rip Success
    Pick Success
    Pick Strength

These three stats are based on your defense. For Rip Success, how often are
you actually going to steal the ball when you attempt it? How often will the
opposing player actually crash into your pick? And if they do, how often will
they be stuck behind the pick? These are what these three factors do.

    Attributes
    ----------
Steal Most of these things you won't really have
Block to change. These are all little things.
Ball Handling Like for Defensive Rebounding, how often
Dunk will your guy box out and rebound? Is
Offensve Awareness their handling good enough so they won't
Defensive Awareness get the ball stolen so easily? If you get
Offensive Rebounding injured, how much will your stats get
    Defnsive Rebounding affected by?
    Injury Chance
    Injury Effect
    Clutch Factor

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                               {10.0} Stats Explained
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Along with sliders and tendencies, each player will have a number of stats
that tell you how well the player performs.

Position: The players position. It can go PG, SG, SF, PF, or C. You can't
              change it.
Overall: The overall rating of the player. I don't know how it's calculated,
but pretty much represents the player as a whole. This one is
automatically changed by the computer when you change other stats.
Shot Close: How well the player is at a jump shot up close.
Shot Medium: The player's ability to shoot a mid-range jumper.
Shot 3pt: The player's ability to shoot beyond the arc.
Shot FT: How well the player is at making free throws. Keep in mind that when
real FT percentage is turned off in the options menu, this won't
             matter as much.
Layup: How well the player is at finishing near the hoop.
Dunk: How often a dunk will go down.
Ball Handling: How often the player will get stripped while dribbling.
Pass: A higher pass rating means that a pass will get picked off less often.
Low Post Offense: How often a player can bang their way into the post.
Low Post Defense: How well a player can defend from getting banged into the
                      post.
Block: How often a player can block a shot.
Steal: How often a player can steal a pass or strip the dribbler.
Reb off: How often a player will dive in for the offensive board.
Reb def: How often a plyer will box out for the defensive board.
Speed: How quick a player is when running up the court.
Stamima: Represents quickly a player will get tired.
Durability: How often a player will get injured. Usually unlikely, no matter
                how low this stat it.
Off Awareness: I'm actually unsure what this stat does. I think it's how often
you'll find an open man, or how often the game will do a
double-clutch shot for you to avoid a block.
Def Awareness: How well you can guard a player that tries to cross you up and
                   things like that.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                                   {11.0} Options
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The options menu allows you to change various settings like the type sound
and also turn off some rules of the NBA. Since nobody cares about whether the
sound is stereo or mono, I'm going to touch up the actual reasons that you
    would go here.

    My NBA
    ------
Here, you can set the sliders which are explained at the top. You change both
team and game sliders. You can't change player tendencies in this menu,
however. You also have access to your offensive and defensive playbooks and
assign them to a shortcut on the D-Pad for quick execution.

    Gameplay
    --------
Here, you can access several settings.

Play mode - Set this to either Arcade or Simulation. Arcade automatically
turns off rules for you. Usually, you'd want to keep this on
Simulation. You can also set your difficulty level between Rookie,
Pro, All Star, Superstar, and Hall of Fame.

Game Speed - The three options are slow, normal, and fast. I keep this on slow
for 12 minute quarters and medium for 5 minute ones. It basically
dictates the tempo of the game.
Fatigue - Do you want your players to get tired? If so, keep this on default,
              which is on.
Injuries - Do you want injuries to affect you? Do you want there to be a
chance of a real injury on the court? For realism, keep it on,
               which is default.
Pass Icon - Default is on. This shows who you'll pass to when pressing X.
Defensive Player Icon - Default is on. I'm not sure what this does. I think it
shows who you're controlling on defense.
Real Player FT - With this on, even when you have a perfect release on a free
throw, it will sometimes miss depending on the player's
actual free throw rating. The default is off, but I like to
keep this on for the authenticity of the actual players.
Switch On Pass - When this is on(default), when you pass the ball you'll
switch control to that player. If want to control someone
without the ball, keep this off.
Clutch Factor - The default is on. I have no idea what this does, to be
honest. I assume that this affects each player's hidden clutch
                    rating.

    Presentation
    ------------
These settings will all affect what you see while playing the game.

Ability Icons - Shows/hides the icons next to a player's name that states any
                    strong attributes, such as defense(hand).
Fatigue Bar - When players get really tired, you'll see the bar below their
name turn red. You can turn this off to hide it.
Free Throw Routine - Some players like Jason Kidd and Steve Francis have
special routines each time they go to the Free Throw
Line. You can turn stop their routines by turning off
                         this option.
Free Throw Help - After every free throw, the game will tell you how your shot
was, like if it was perfect or release slightly late.
Rebounding Icon - After someone shoots the ball, you'll see a small circle of
where the ball might land. You can hide this circle by
                      turning of this option.
Action Replays - You can keep this on occasional, frequent, or none. This is
basically how often a replay will be shown.
Stat Overlays - While playing the game, you'll often see some stats randomly
appear on the screen. If this annoys you, you can turn it off
                    here.
Ball Handler Text - This shows what you want to see when under the ball
handler. You can choose to see their name, number and
                        position, or nothing at all.
Vibration - Self-explanatory. Do you want the game to rumble or not?
Audio - Also self explanatory. Standard mono, stereo, and surround sound. :)
Audio Presentation - This just changes audio sliders below to a set amount.
Commentary Volume - Changes how loud you like to listen to Kenny Smith and
                        other commentary.
PA Vol - Changes the volume of the PA when calling out names and such.
SE Vol - Changes the volume of sound effects, such as the swish of a made
              shot.
Crowd Vol - Changes the volume of the crowd, such as cheering.
Player Chatter Vol - Sometimes, you'll hear the players talking. Change their
                         volume here.
Menu Music Vol - Change the volume of the music you here during the menus.
Progressive Scan - AFAIK, this is some kind of high definition thing. If your
TV has it, great, turn it on. If you're a poor guy like me,
turn it off. Cuz like, you don't have it.
2K Beats Panel - After each song in the menu, you'll see the title pop up
down below. You can turn this off here.
Use Custom Arena Music - Uses your custom ingame playlist on the court when
you play. You must set your custom arena music first.

    NBA Rules
    ---------
These rules take effect when you play the game. You have to set them before
you start playing. You can turn these on/off:

    Shot Clock
    Out Of Bounds
    Backcourt Violation
    8 Sec Half Court
    3 in the key
    Def 3 in the key
    5 Sec Back to Basket

Here are other things you can change.
Foul Out - Change where or not you can foul out, and how many fouls it takes
               to do so.
Goaltending - Allow goalting or disallow it.

Here are miscellaneous sliders that you can change for fouls.
    Charging Foul
    Blocking Foul
    Reach in Foul
    Shooting Foul
    Loose Ball Foul

    Game Sliders
    ------------
Adjust your sliders here. They're the same ones as in My NBA. If you need
help on any of the sliders, just go to the sliders section in the FAQ.

    Controller Setup
    ----------------
If you don't like to the controls for some odd reason, you can change it to
two other setups in this menu. You can change it for either controller.

    Camera
    ------
You can set up the camera here. I like to keep it on 2K7 so I can see where
all my players are. Keep it on your favorite mode.

    Choose Side
    -----------
If you're a loser and want to switch sides during the game, go here and move
your controller to the left/right side, whichever you want to be on. However,
once you switch sides you can't get any more achievements or points for the
crib, and any VIP stat recordings won't be kept. Oh yeah, you can't switch
sides in Association or Season modes for an obvious reason.

    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                               {12.0} Association Mode
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

This is THE most used mode for offline players. This mode lets you take
control of any franchise and control it for an indefinite amount of time. You
can scout new rookies, improve existing players, play against every team in
the normal NBA schedule, and more.

When you first start up the association, you'll go to an options screen. I'll
    explain what each option is.

    Pre-game Options:
    -----------------
Players - Choose how many teams you want to take control of in the game.
Season Length - Choose between 29 gamaes, 58 games, or 82 games. It's just how
many games you want to play in a season.
Preseason - I always though preseason was retarted in this game, so I turned
it off. You can do what you like.
Owner Firing - If you win very few games, you'll get fired. Turn this on/off.
Progressive Fatigue - If you have players that play excessive minutes, their
rating will drop a bit and they'll get tired faster. If
you want this off, you can turn it off here.
Trade Deadline - After the second or third week of February, you will no
longer be able to trade with other teams until the postseason
ends. Turn this on or off.
Trade Override - If you want an unrealistic team, you can force trades for
yourself. The other franchise will always accept. Turn this
                     on/off.
    Allow CPU Trade - Self-explanatory.
Round 1 Format - These four options are all the same. Choose how many
Round 2 Format - games you want in each round of the playoffs.
    Conference Finals -
    Finals -
Fantasy Draft Roster - Start your roster by scratch. Take players in a draft-
like fashion with the other CPUs.
Customize League - This option allows you to change teams from various
conferences and divisions. If you want LA to become part of
the Atlantic Division in the East, you can do that here.
Team Chemistry - The better the chemistry, the higher the chance that you'll
perform alley-oops and win games in simulations. Turn this on
                     or off.
VIP Playback - You can choose to assign the computer to a VIP account.
Quarter Length - When you play the game, how long do you want the quarters to
                     be?
Sim Quarter Lenth - When you simulate a game(and for other teams), how long
                        will they play?

After this, select your favorite team. Each team has ratings and a personality
for the boss. These things don't really matter. Just select your favorite.
You'll then be brought to the Create a GM screen. Just choose what you want to
look like(actually, this doesn't matter at all since we never see him...) and
press start to be brought to the calendar.

On the calendar, you'll see all the games that you'll be playing that month.
Press R2 and L2 to switch between months and R1 and L1 to switch between teams
if you have more than one. Press X on a day with a game and a menu will pop
up. You can select to play the game or simulate it. If you advance more than
one day, you can choose to simulate all games. The blue days are home games
and the green ones are away.

On the bottom left, you'll see a chemistry meter. If you win games, it will go
up. If you trade players, it will go down. A higher chemistry means that
you'll win more games and your team will just overall play better.

After every week, you have the chance to set up practice. You can choose to
improve some of their stats at the cost of stamina. Know when to set
practices. Give your team a day off sometimes, especially after back to back
games where their fatigue will be very high.

Once in a while, your player will get injured. If it's a minor injury, there's
nothing to worry about. Your player will still play, but he'll be slower and
less effective than usual. If it's a major injury and the player is out, well,
then there's nothing you can do about it. Get a sub.

    ==============================================================================
                                  (12.1) Main Menus
    ==============================================================================

    Job Status
    ----------
This is really important if you turned on owner firing. You must have earned
a profit and win games for the meter to go up. Try to keep it high. If it's
low, you'll get fired. It usually takes a great deal of losses. Even while
controlling the Knicks, it took me about a year and a half with some pretty
bad players to get fired. Basically, if you run the team into the ground
    you're done.

When you get fired or resign, you have the option to go to a new franchise.
You can select among the worst of the franchises.

    Personnel
    ---------
Under the General Manager menu, you'll find a variety of things to do with
your current roster and personnel. Your personnel includes a head coach,
assistant coach, 1-3 scouts, and a trainer. A trainer helps keep injury
durations low. Scouts help bring back useful information when looking at
rookies. As for the two coaches, I can only assume that they help bring up
the ratings of your players. Not too sure about that.

Each one of your guys has a contract. After their contract expires, you can
choose to extend it or hire a new candidate. Each spot must be filled at all
times during the season. A better candidate will cost more money.

    Roster
    ------
Under General Manager, you'll see your current roster. You can change their
jersey number, tendencies, shoes, and appearances, but not stats. You can
also choose to waive them during the season. If you want to look at your
lineup, go to Coaching > Lineups. Select your starting five. You can have a
max of 12 active players and 15 total.

During the season, you can sign free agents. Keep in mind that if you're over
the salary cap, you will not be able to sign anyone over the minimum of 350k.
You might also be offered trades. Usually, the computer proposes really bad
trades so it's best if you propose, which brings me to my next topic.

    Trading
    -------
Under General Manager, you'll find an option for trading and 3-way trade. For
normal trading, choose who you want to ship out and select the player(s) and
or pick(s) that you want. Keep in mind that if you're over over the CAP, their
salaries must match in order for the trade to go through. If the trade goes
through, you'll recieve your deal but take a hit to chemistry, if it's turned
    on.

For 3-Way Trading, all the teams must have an equal amount coming in as going
out if they are over the CAP. It's rather difficult to get a successful 3-
Way Trade. Like a normal trade, you can only select up to three players/pick
    per side.

Right below the trading option, you'll see trading block. Press R2 and L2 to
scroll between different teams. These are the players that the team wants to
dump. If you make an offer for these players, the computer will be more likely
to give them up. You can also set your own players on the trading block by
selecting your team name and an empty square.

    2Ksports HQ
    -----------
This is basically your stat hub. View which teams have the best records and
are on top of the power ranking. See who leads the league in scoring, which
player leads your team in scoring, and others. You can also view your
messages. Unlike in NBA 2K6, you aren't informed if you get a message so be
    sure to check it often.

Before February, you'll see All-Star Votes. See which players are closest to
making the all star game. After the ASG, you'll see who leads the races for
the awards such as MVP and Rookie of the Year.

    Saving Your Game
    ----------------
It's important that you save your game often because the game won't do it for
you. You can name your association file. Go to options and then save.

    ==============================================================================
                           (12.2) Coaching and Development
    ==============================================================================

Other than your lineups, you can set the strategy for your team. Select how
deep you want to go into your bench, your tempo, and other settings. Most of
these are explained in the options section. One important thing that you must
look at is the progress sliders. These are all linked. If you increase one,
the others will decrease and vice-versa. Choose which stat is the most
important to you. After the season ends, you'll see results and your players'
overall stats will raise. One bit of advice, don't deny fitness. Your players
stats can also decrease. Without fitness, their stamina will be really, really
low and they won't be able to last in a game for a very long time. Keep in
mind that some players with high potential such as Lebron's stats will improve
very quickly, no matter what you do. Young players stats tend to go up and
older players stats tend to go down. That's just how life is.

Another thing that you should look at is development. In development, you have
10 hours to assign players to different workouts. Each workout takes a
different amount of hours depending on which activity you choose. Development
is really for rookies and younger players that you plan to keep on the team
for a long time. As the player gets better, each workout is harder to
complete, so don't bother wasting those hours on guys like Kobe. Besides, if
Kobe were any better he'd be banned.

After a successful development practice, you'll see immediate improvements.
Remember to decide what you want before choosing the practice. If you decide
to cancel a practice, you won't get those hours back. Also, each player can
only do a development workout once per month. You must assign your 10 hours
every month, but you don't have to do them. Your hours will go back up to
10 the next month. Press Start to complete the workouts. If you cancel a
workout, you won't get those hours back, so choose wisely. The hours also
won't come back if your workout fails.

For your lineups, the order of the bench really does matter. The one closest
to the top will be your sixth man and get more minutes than the one last on
your active roster. Order your team so players you want to get the most
minutes will be closer to the top. This doesn't affect the starting five. They
will always get more minutes than the bench, unless for some reason one of
    them gets into foul trouble.

    ==============================================================================
                             (12.3) Scouting and Drafting
    ==============================================================================

During and after the season ends, you can take a look at players in the
upcoming draft. Just go to General Manager > Scouting. Select Prospect List
and you'll see all the rookies. Press select to see their NBA comparison and
strengths and weaknesses. If you press X on a player, selct the scout that
you want to go visit that player. A few days later, you'll get some more
information on him. Be sure to read your messages. Depending on how good your
scout is, you might pick up more information than others. You'll still never
really get actual stats though, no matter what you do. Also, if you look at
where each player is from, you'll notice instead of a college some will say
China or France. These foreign players will take a few days longer to scout
than the normal ones. Are they better? I don't know; it's up to the scout.

Apart from the prospect list, you'll see the big board. This is a mock draft.
    It'll change as you play.

A week before the draft after the season ends, you'll have the option of
working out your players a bit more to get more information about them. You
can choose a 5-on-5, 3-on-3, and others. You can only select one workout for
the player. In addition, you can only use each workout a certain number of
    times.

On the day of the draft, the draft order will be decided. If you didn't make
the playoffs, you're considered a lottery team. You'll see the chances of
you making the first pick, then the order will be shown. If you made the
playoffs, then your pick is set in stone depending on your record. The best
record will go last(30th), then the second best and so on. If you have a
lottery team's pick, your team will be shown in the lottery picks. Sadly,
there's no way to tell what team the pick that you have is from. The second
round picks are decided by the first round picks. If you have the first
overall pick, you will also have the 31st overall pick, assumning that you
have your team's second round pick.

OK, now onto the draft. Wait and see what each team picks before it's your
turn. Then, make your decision. Be sure to remember the name of the guy that
you want to draft because it won't be in order here. If you're lazy, you can
press Start to do a complete CPU draft.

After drafting your rookies, you can choose to sign them. If you don't,
they'll be released into free agency.

                                     {16.0} FAQ
    xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Q: Can you change positions for the players in this game?
    A: Nope.

Q: How often are there online roster updates?
A: It usually comes after the 360 version.

Q: Is there a 24/7 Mode in this game?
A: Only in the 360 version.

Q: My player's rating keeps getting lower in Association Mode. Why?
A: Progressive Fatigue, or just aging. If your player is 30 and above, their
stats will slowly deteriorate over time till they end up like Dikembe
Mutombo. If the player is still young, try giving him some rest. Give your
team a day off instead of practice or play him for less minutes.

Q: How do I get my player's rating higher in Association Mode?
A: Each player has their own potential. Try doing development workouts. Their
stats will also automatically rise/fall at the start of a new season.

Q: Why do my sliders keep resetting and my cheats not save?
A: Because you didn't save your settings. After doing what you need to do, go
       to Save Settings.
