Overall good system

I bought a Playstation 3 a few weeks ago, and I've been satisfied with it the whole time. It's a major improvement over the Playstation 2, for a few reasons:

Graphics - 10/10
The graphics on this system are excellent. They take advantage of the Blu-ray format to produce visuals that are a lot better than Playstation 2's. Although the Blu-ray discs are expensive, they're well worth the money, especially if you have a high definition TV.

Sound - 9/10
Not that much of an improvement over Ps2, but they still sound great. If you play Ps2 games and Ps3 games, you'll notice a slight difference but not much, except with games where the sound was bad to begin with.

Gameplay - 10/10
The Playstation 3 takes games to a new level. The sixaxis wireless controller is a lot lighter that previous controllers, but it hasn't changed much. A cool feature was a tilt sensor, which is used a lot in games like Call of Duty 3 to make the game more realistic.

Design/Size - 7/10
This is where the Ps3's problems are. The unit is about as large as the original Xbox, and weighs a ton. Although it can be stood on its side, the ps3 takes up a lot of space. The design and color scheme is nice, though.

Heat - 6/10
The ps3 generates a lot of heat, but not as bad as the thin Ps2s. If you put it in a confined space, it will most likely overheat. There is a large fan, but it is very loud and interferes with the game's sound if you play with the volume low.

Games - 8/10
This section is mostly opinion, but I think the Ps3's game library is good. It has titles like Dirt, Call of Duty 4, and Smackdown Vs. Raw 2008, which play very well on the system. There will be a lot more Ps3 games made before the system becomes outdated, which is good.

Software - 9/10
The Playstation 3's software is a massive improvement over the Playstation 2. It's menus look a lot like the PSP's, except you can use custom themes. You can also install different operating systems, but they sometimes don't work correctly for playing games.

Like every system, the Playstation 3 has its flaws. If you look hard enough, you can find some, but Sony has made some great improvements and you won't likely find that many serious flaws.

Rating:   4.0 - Great
