    Story Mode Start and Notes

    Story Mode starting point notes:

    Gender, Difficulty, and Name can be changed from the options menu.

    Notes:

    If a set of choices does not have the bond information to the lower right side, the choices only affect some of the text.

    Harder modes may have more Sector Traps and Easier modes may have fewer or no Sector Traps. This guide was primarily written based on Hard mode as most players will not have Very Hard mode unlocked until beating the game once.

    The Maps in this guide will be based on the easy mode of the first map for that boss. The exact units may differ. The maps are more to provide a visual idea of how to move around.

    This guide is for v1.01 of the game and does not include DLCs. While most of this guide also applies to the Vita version, it should be noted that there are some differences between versions such as the requirements for EX and Side Missions on the Vita being reduced to somewhere around 1/2 to 1/9th the PS4 requirements.

    In general, to obtain EX, try to obtain these scores (You may not need to get every Sector for larger stages):

    Basic Tips and Tricks:

    • Use up all Mystic Code casts before the battle ends as they provide Bond experience, which can help with leveling up bonds.
    • Rankless nodes between Sectors are good safe zones from Servants as they will not spawn on those nodes. This could be useful for catching a breather.
    • Command Seals and Code Casts recharge at the start of each Stage, even if Stages are chained.
    • Using Command Seals to power up your Servant will also refill EM and Health.
    • Leaving a chain of Stages will allow the player to continue from the Stage they left from, allowing players to change their Mystic Code or rest.
    • Retreating or Losing will cause any items (Install Skills, Armor Upgrade pieces), but will retain bond and experience.
    • Bonds can be gained in side story mode and free mode..
    • Reaching Bond 14 will unlock all Install Skill slots and reaching Bond 30 will unlock several options such as additional Mystic Codes that allow that Servant to be sub-Servants in free mode.
    • Side Missions (Not Side Stories) can be refreshed by exiting out of the Stage preparation screen to the Stage Choice (Free Mode) or Base/Room Menu (Story Mode) screen. This can help with finding favorable choices.
    • Most Servants have limited movesets initially and gain new moves every 3~6 levels. Servants should have most or all moves unlocked around level 23.
    • Install Skills dropped by Aggressors will be automatically picked up after some time passes or the Stage is Cleared.
    • While risky, you can avoid Sector Traps by Capturing the Sector before they can activate. Generally, this only works on smaller Sectors by using EM to clear waves quickly (as EM pauses the timer after the initial delay). Note: Leaving the Sector will not reset the Sector Trap timer.
    • As many Mystic Codes are unlocked by Normal Mode, it may be a good idea to do Normal Mode first, then Hard Mode after for each Stage that has both Normal and Hard mode drops.
      • Easy Mode is basically Normal Mode with fewer/no Sector Traps, weaker enemies, and bosses generally do not use Noble Phantasm.

    General Combat Tips and Tricks

    • Enemies spawn in groups. generally starting with Aggressors/Servants and Ranged enemies, then Melee enemies starting from the closest valid point to the player. This means it can take a few seconds upon entering an area or after killing a large group to reach full density and moving quickly through a large area can result in clumps without Melee enemies.
    • Make note of ranged enemies as they are dangerous and come with elements.
      • Throwing Axe/Cube wielders have weapons that glow with a color based on their element, these tend to count as Melee for spawning priority, but have the same respawn rules as other ranged.
      • Archers are colored based on their element and have a quiver on their back. They glow brightly based on their element when preparing to fire.
      • Bats are flying units that glow based on their element when preparing to fire.
      • Ranged enemies generally only spawn upon entering a Sector or upon the spawn of a new wave. Ranged enemies will always respawn upon re-entering an area.
    • Only Servant/Boss type enemies can be locked onto. When locked on using R3, the camera will attempt to keep the enemy in the center of the screen. Pressing R3 again will remove lock-on. Some cutscenes will also remove lock-on.
    • Dashing can grab enemies and push back Servants and can be used while shocked.
    • Guard (L1), can cancel combos to restart the combo (for example, if S S S S S chaining is not viable, the player could instead do S S S S Guard to redo the first four attacks repeatedly).
    • If launched, players can "tech" to recover by hitting the jump button at the right time.
    • EM does more damage with longer bursts, but using a single charge can be useful for tasks such as clearing out ranged enemies in an area quickly and using fewer charges can be useful to save EM gauge for other Sectors/Waves.
    • (Bug) Using bars in EM mode to continue the EM when the hidden timer is almost up will use up EM gauge bars, but will not do additional damage.
    • EM does more damage towards the center of the strike area, meaning the hit enemy/enemies will take the most damage.
    • Hitting the EM button will cause the player to charge in the direction that the Servant is facing, NOT in the direction that the stick is pointed. It takes a moment for the Servant to turn towards the stick's direction.
    • When exiting Moon Drive transforming mode, you will do damage to the nearby area.
    • Moon Drive gauge and EM gauge charge faster with higher hit combo value.
      • EM can charge Moon Drive gauge
      • Depending on the Sector's enemy density and Servant EM capacity, at around 10000 to 20000 hit combo, it can be possible to chain full EM bursts and Moon Drives back to back.
      • Note: Moon Drive and EM gauge direct gain is from enemy death drops, there is also some gain from hits. The exact per hit gain seems to be based on the character.
      • Cutscenes can interrupt combos.
    • While generally only being able to be used once per Stage, Noble Phantasm grants invincibility frames. This can be used to prevent damage.

    Boss/Hero Combat Tips (all Hero type bosses):

    • Some bosses have Noble Phantasms. They will glow purple when they activate them and attacking them when they are glowing will drop a Noble Phantasm Circuit.
    • When a boss suddenly has a cutscene where they seem to power up or glow yellow, they are in Moon Drive mode. In this mode, the boss is immune to most attack's stuntimes. They have a visible, explosive ending to this mode that deals damage to nearby targets. You can counter with your own Moon Drive Mode, stay far away until it ends, use EM to push them away, and/or use a Noble Phantasm to do damage.
    • Save Noble Phantasm for bosses if possible.
    • Your Command Seals recharge at the start of each stage, do not be afraid to use them to finish off a strong boss.
    • When a boss is guarding, stop attacking as the boss can counterattack. Instead, wait for the boss to leave guard and attack as soon as they drop their guard.
    • It is possible to counter all non-Noble Phantasm, non-EM attacks, including attacks made in Moon Drive mode and boss attacks. However, the timing is difficult and Moon Drive mode attacks can be especially hard to counter. The counter must be made between the start of the enemy attack animation and the landing of the attack.
    • Guard will block MOST attacks, including EM. Moon Drive mode's guard break attack replaces EM in exchange for being able to attack through guards.
      • Damage can be done to guarding targets as Damage is still calculated, but with a massive boost in Defense.
    • Minor enemies can drop health and EM items if the respective gauge is not full. In general, the lower the gauge, the higher the drop rate. This can be useful for difficult boss fights. Even without dropping those items, killing them can give EM and Moon Drive charge and extremely minor amounts of health (appears to be about 1 health per 100 enemies, so it can take some time to heal up a Servant considering most Servants start with around 2000 health)
    • One cheap way to beat most bosses is to spam the dash heavy attack. Most bosses have a hard time countering it and dashing away can cause the boss to drop their guard.

    You will start in a Servant Slammer type area (Servant Slammer is a type of Sector Trap that prevents the player from leaving until the Sector is taken).

    For farming, Try to Capture all but the an 01 and an 04 Sector, this will allow for plant generation while giving some room to move around. Try to keep Sector D (Rank 03) protected in order to keep Lancer alive to make the boss fight easier. This can be made easier by Defending and Capturing Sector F (the left 04) earlier to have the enemy to prioritize that Sector.

    For Hard mode, Capture all but an 04 Sector. This way, your last Sector will be the final 04 Sector and it will allow for more free movement between areas if necessary. Careful management of health and EM drops can allow for players to jump to another Sector to grab health then jump back to continue fighting until the boss moves.

    The points needed to Complete the Regime Matrix is 15. There are 18 points total here. Capture Sector E last to make it easier to get EX rank.

    Boss Spawns at I

    Boss Type: Rider (Blue Faction)

    Capture all Sectors before fighting Berserker (Blue Faction) to maximize areas taken before boss spawns. Try to save your Moon Drive for Berserker or the Rider Boss.

    Recommendation: Attack in a clockwise format and save Berserker for near last. There should be 2 red Sectors when Berserker is defeated if your Assassin Servant is still fighting. Weaken those Sectors before Defeating Berserker. Alternatively, allow your Assassin Servant to Retreat before Defeating the Berserker Servant.

    Elemental Warnings: There are 3 Flame traps, 2 Frost traps, Rider and Bats have Lightning, and many enemies have Poison. Having flame_resist(#) type Code Casts is recommended

    ???'s Sidequest: Collect about 5 Yakisoba Pan in a row in Sector D within 3 seconds (Saber unit will spawn with boss)

    You will need to defeat Rider 3 times, Once to 50%, Once to 33%, Once to 0%. When he gains motivation, he gains a stack of super armor. At two stacks, he can be very difficult to defeat as he will ignore most knockback effects. If doing the Saber sidequest, it is recommended to defeat him all three times before activating the boss.

    Boss will spawn at E

    Boss Type: Ruler (Green Faction)

    Recommended actions:
    1. Defeat Rider while taking care of plant invasions as necessary (Capturing E will force F to attack E first)
    2. Capture as many Sectors as possible before Rider Respawns except for D and F while protecting Sector B as needed.
    3. Repeat steps 1 to 3 until Rider has been defeated 3 times.
    4. (Sidequest) Farm for 5~10 Yakisoba Pan in Sector D (Having less than full health should cause these to spawn) while being careful to not capture it (Sector E should attack Sector D if it is accidentally captured)
    5. (Optional) Farm for full Moon Drive charge and EM bar (this is not necessary, but will make it easier)
    6. (Sidequest) Finish the hidden sidequest by collecting about 5 Yakisoba Pan quickly.
    7. Capture Sector D
    8. Capture Sector F and then use the left path to go to G and then D before the key is unlocked.
    9. Defeat Saber and other invaders as quickly as possible. When Ruler appears, Comboing Noble Phantasm, EM, and then Moon Drive can help with doing high amounts of damage quickly.
    10. (Optional) Retreat to B once Sector D has been defended properly and wait for Ruler to move over. Assassin will help fight Ruler if he is still alive, making the fight easier.

    After Stage 4:

    Flame Poem Stage 5 with Redrawn Maze

    The Map to the side is a mouse redrawn Sector A as Sector A can be hard to navigate at first. The map should be generally accurate.

    Archer initially spawns from Sector G. He will retreat at 30% health. He must be brought to 5% health on his second spawn.

    Ruler and Rider will slowly progress around the map, defeat them as soon as possible.

    Portal will spawn at Sector F

    You are thrown directly into a boss fight

    Stage 6:

    There will be three Noble Phantasm Circuit drops at roughly 70%, 50%, and 20% hp remaining.


    Before breaking the hand for the first time, charge your Moon Drive gauge as you will need the Moon Drive guard break to progress. After the barrier is broken, you can attack the cube normally.

    The fight will cycle between avoiding attacks and attack hand phases. Once the hand is broken, the game will move to the attack cube phase. This will repeat until the boss is defeated (excluding cutscenes and map changes).

    Phase 1:

    Sword Swing: Boss will raise her hand with a red sword in one direction. If you are in the middle or towards that direction, dash repeatedly until you are past the sword. If you are on the other side, dash repeatedly away from the sword, the sword attack will hit roughly a semi-circle. Alternatively, you can try to jump over the sword with a double jump. After some health is lost, this attack will always be followed by a single slam Particle Blast.

    Particle Blast: Boss will raise her hand with a dark glowing orb and slam it down near the glowing hand's area three times. If this attack follows her Sword Swing, it will only hit once. Sword After this attack is finished, the player should charge at the hand and do as much damage as possible.

    Pound: The boss will bring both hands up clenched together. She will then slam her hand down to do heavy damage to the area in front of her. Dash away from the middle when this occurs and be prepared to hit her hands after.

    Collapse: Once the hand is broken, the boss will slowly collapse. The hands of the boss can do damage to the player.

    Phase 2:

    For the second phase of the fight, try to stay in the middle, but be ready to flee to either side.

    Light Beam: Boss will almost hug herself before she puts her hands to the sides palm up while looking up with beams of light going from her mouth. This attack will fire five sets of pillars of light at the player, marked by circles. Easiest way to dodge is to remove lock-on and keep running in a zig-zag pattern without attacking.

    Heavy Pound: Boss will bring both hands up clenched together. She will then slam her hand down to do heavy damage to the center of the area one or three times. Each slam will throw a shockwave outwards. Dodge by going towards the side and jumping over each shockwave.

    Particle Wall: Boss will put her hands close together and form an orb in-between her hands. This attack will USUALLY hit towards where you were when the animation for this attack started, but it may follow your Servant somewhat or even directly aim at your Servant. Generally, if there is a white, icy mist, that is the center of the attack area. This attack will hit about half of the platform or more. Stay somewhat near the edge of the area on the opposite side that the boss is facing and be ready to dash to the side if you see it heading towards you as this attack does heavy damage and can kill you in one hit if you are near or under the recommended level.

    Sword Swing: Boss will raise her hand with a red sword in one direction. If you are in the middle or towards that direction, dash repeatedly until you are past the sword. If you are on the other side, dash repeatedly away from the sword, the sword attack will hit roughly a semi-circle. Alternatively, you can try to jump over the sword with a double jump. After some health is lost, this attack will always be followed by a single slam Particle Blast.

    Particle Blast: Boss will raise her hand with a dark glowing orb and slam it down near the glowing hand. A short charge where the boss brings their hand directly upwards means they will slam once and a long charge where the boss brings their hand downwards before raising it means they will slam down three times. If this attack follows the Sword Swing, it will only hit once. Sword After this attack is finished, the player should charge at the hand and do as much damage as possible.

    Collapse: Once the hand is broken, the boss will slowly collapse. The hands of the boss can do damage to the player.

    Recommended actions:

    1. Grab Sector B and Sector D, then fight Lancer at Sector D.
    2. Take Sector F and Sector G while waiting for Saber to move out of Sector I
    3. Take Retake any lost Sectors while aiming for Sector H. Defeat plants as needed.
    4. Once Saber is defeated, Take all but Sectors J and I.
    5. (Sidequest) Farm for 5~10 Yakisoba Pan in Sector D (Having less than full health should cause these to spawn) while being careful to not capture it.
    6. (Optional) Farm for full Moon Drive charge and EM bar (this is not necessary, but will make it easier)
    7. (Sidequest) Finish the hidden sidequest by collecting about 5 Yakisoba Pan quickly.
    8. Bring Sectors J and I down to 1 Aggressor each and bring both to low health.
    9. Capture Sector J or I, then immediately run to Sector I or J and defeat the remaining Aggressor.
    10. Run back to J and fight Saber. You can go to another Sector to force Archer to move.
    11. After killing Saber, defeat Archer.

    There will be three Noble Phantasm Circuit drops at roughly 70%, 50%, and 20% hp remaining.


    Before breaking the hand for the first time, charge your Moon Drive gauge as you will need the Moon Drive guard break to progress. After the barrier is broken, you can attack the cube normally.

    The fight will cycle between avoiding attacks and attack hand phases. Once the hand is broken, the game will move to the attack cube phase. This will repeat until the boss is defeated (excluding cutscenes and map changes).

    Phase 1:

    Sword Swing: Boss will raise her hand with a red sword in one direction. If you are in the middle or towards that direction, dash repeatedly until you are past the sword. If you are on the other side, dash repeatedly away from the sword, the sword attack will hit roughly a semi-circle. Alternatively, you can try to jump over the sword with a double jump. After some health is lost, this attack will always be followed by a single slam Particle Blast.

    Particle Blast: Boss will raise her hand with a dark glowing orb and slam it down near the glowing hand's area three times. If this attack follows her Sword Swing, it will only hit once. Sword After this attack is finished, the player should charge at the hand and do as much damage as possible.

    Pound: The boss will bring both hands up clenched together. She will then slam her hand down to do heavy damage to the area in front of her. Dash away from the middle when this occurs and be prepared to hit her hands after.

    Collapse: Once the hand is broken, the boss will slowly collapse. The hands of the boss can do damage to the player.

    Phase 2:

    For the second phase of the fight, try to stay in the middle, but be ready to flee to either side.

    Light Beam: Boss will almost hug herself before she puts her hands to the sides palm up while looking up with beams of light going from her mouth. This attack will fire five sets of light pillars at the player, marked by circles. Easiest way to dodge is to remove lock-on and keep running in a zig-zag pattern without attacking.

    Heavy Pound: Boss will bring both hands up clenched together. She will then slam her hand down to do heavy damage to the center of the area one or three times. Each slam will throw a shockwave outwards. Dodge by going towards the side and jumping over each shockwave.

    Particle Wall: Boss will put her hands close together and form an orb in-between her hands. This attack will USUALLY hit towards where you were when the animation for this attack started, but it may follow your Servant somewhat or even directly aim at your Servant. Generally, if there is a white, icy mist, that is the center of the attack area. This attack will hit about half of the platform or more. Stay somewhat near the edge of the area on the opposite side that the boss is facing and be ready to dash to the side if you see it heading towards you as this attack does heavy damage and can kill you in one hit if you are near or under the recommended level.

    Sword Swing: Boss will raise her hand with a red sword in one direction. If you are in the middle or towards that direction, dash repeatedly until you are past the sword. If you are on the other side, dash repeatedly away from the sword, the sword attack will hit roughly a semi-circle. Alternatively, you can try to jump over the sword with a double jump.     Go straight for D and take it to pull yourself out of hazard and then take J while taking out the Plants at F and I

    Once you've defeated the opposing heroes, defend points F, H, and J while slowly gaining all the rank 1 locations while allowing D to be taken (defeat the hero there) in order to ensure that the boss won't spawn before you are ready. Save at least 6 points such as D and E or D and F (D and H works also) for last, bringing both to 1 aggressor each at low health.

    Recommended steps:

    1. Run to Sector J to defeat Assassin.
    2. Take Sector A.
    3. Quickly Capture nearby Sectors while destroying plants as needed, saving Archer's location and Sector E.
    4. Assassin should appear in C after, Defeat Assassin a second time and keep working on the Sectors in the area.
    5. Assassin will appear at H next.
    6. (Sidequest) Farm for 5~10 Yakisoba Pan in Sector E (Having less than full health should cause these to spawn) while being careful to not capture it.
    7. (Optional) Farm for full Moon Drive charge and EM bar (this is not necessary, but will make it easier)

    9. Capture all points except for the one Archer is on and the one Assassin is on.
    10. Allow Assassin to defeat your allied Servant, but enter the Sector before Assassin escapes. Weaken Assassin if Assassin is the last Aggressor or Defeat Assassin if there are remaining Aggressors. Do not take the Sector, but ensure that only one enemy remains.
    11. Defeat Archer and quickly Defeat Assassin.
    12. Defeat Saber who will spawn at E
    13. Defeat the Lancer boss.

    As an alternative for those unable to quickly take Sectors fast enough, defeat Archer and Assassin earlier, but ensure that the enemy team takes or keeps the Sector. This will allow the player to take the other locations first.

    Chapter 6: Invasion Like Fire | Mare Aurum, the Capital of Roses
