    Introduction

    Greetings person looking at this! Welcome to my guide to Sand Sailor and Square-Enix's most recent addition to the atmospheric world of creepy, hyper stylised platformers - Black The Fall. People who have tried offerings such as LIMBO, INSIDE and Deadlight will find themselves right at home in Black The Fall with this latest title playing with very similar simplistic two buttons (interact/jump) style gameplay and not straying too far from the formula that made the aforementioned titles so well received. That means tons of platforming, a large number of puzzles to give your noggin a workout and some sneakily hidden secret areas to find to unlock Achievements/Trophies as you go.

    This guide will provide you with a walkthrough that will take you through the game from beginning to end helping with strategies to get you through all the tricky puzzles and difficult platforming segments.It will also direct you to the locations of all the secret areas which will unlock the game's 14 Achievements/Trophies along the way, leaving you with the [full 1,000 Gamerscore/Platinum Trophy] on offer at the end of it.

    Walkthrough

    Welcome to my walkthrough for the downloadable title Black the Fall. This guide will have you sorted with every solution to every puzzle and platforming section from start to finish. It has been divided into chapters listed according to the squares listed on the 'Load' menu accessible in-game by hitting the Start button. As such, you should be able to find exactly what you are looking for! This walkthrough will also point out and help you find all of the hidden areas and Achievements/Trophies buried away within Black the Fall in order to unlock the associated Achievements/Trophies to be had in the game. Without further ado, let's begin!

    Act I

    Chapter 01

    Upon starting a new game, you'll be riding an elevator downwards with a number of other NPCs. Once the elevator stops, it'll be your floor. Walk to the right until you find a bicycle and a doorway.

    We'll need to hop onto the bicycle and hold down the interact button (X/A) so that we start cycling. This will activate the machinery nearby. A mining cart will make its way from a furnace, up to the platform where the bicycle is and then through a hatch beside the door on the right. As it passes through the hatch, the door will open briefly allowing you to proceed through it.

    Before we do that, however, there is a hidden Achievement/Trophy in this very first room that we can grab first.

    Note: To earn the Achievement/Trophy, you'll need to hop onto the bicyle here and stay on the bike for roughly 10 or so minutes.When you are finished, you'll hear a hoot sound and you'll unlock the Achievement/Trophy ‘Working Class Hero'.

    To continue, head through the door that opens with the mine cart's progress, either on the way out, or when it returns. Heading through the door will trigger an alarm.

    On the far side of the door, you'll be in a dark hallway with a red spotlight on the floor. This is attached to an automatic gun mounted on the roof and if the spotlight centers on you for too long, the gun will shoot, killing you instantly. To get past the spotlight, you'll need to run (R2/RT) to the right.

    We'll soon encounter a second spotlight. This time around, we'll need to look above our platform. There is a conveyor carrying suspended wooden pallets above. Wait until one of these passes below the turret and it will block the spotlight for a short time. Use this opportunity to walk beneath the pallet to avoid the turret's view. Drop down when you reach the end of the ledge.

    Continue through the tunnel to the right and interact with the gate when you come across it. Keep moving to the right to exit the building.

    Note: As you reach the outdoor area you'll earn the Achievement/Trophy ‘Outlaw'.

    Chapter 02

    Upon reaching the outdoor area, you'll find a jet of flame blocking the walkway ahead. To deal with this, look immediately above the exit we just came from to find a small platform. Jump and climb up onto this. Interact with the wheel up here to disable the flame.

    Continue along the platform to the right.

    When you reach the chain-link fence area, interact with the glowing section of the floor to open a hatch we can drop down through to reach the next area.

    As you move to the right here, you'll see a line of worker NPCs on the platform above with a Guard and an automatic turret at the end. On the lower level where we are situated, there is a yellow sloped piece of metal with a bucket.

    If we try to run across the slanted metal platform without planning, it will slam to the ground and alert the Guard. As such, you'll want to wait by the left-hand side of the metal platform and wait for the Guard to push one of the NPCs through the doorway at the end of the platform. This will distract him for a few seconds and you can use this window to run and jump across the walkway and out of the Guard's line of sight before he knows what has happened.

    At the end of this path, drop down to the platform below.

    This platform is, in fact, a lift and we'll need to use it to cross the gap to the right. There are two panels on the lift. The right-hand panel will change the direction that the lift will move, whilst using the left-hand panel will move the lift.

    To cross the room, you'll first want to change the direction so that it is facing down and ride the lift to the bottom. Next, change the direction to the right and again, pilot the lift as far as it will go to the right. As it hits the platform the camera will change slightly and the noise will attract a nearby automated turret to investigate. Stay away from the right-hand side of the lift until it loses interest.

    Once the turret has retreated, drop off the right-hand side of the lift and climb up the next ledge you come across.

    At this point, you'll see an overhead automatic turret patrolling back and forth across the path ahead. You'll also see a pair of worker NPCs that are manning bicycles. There is a third, unused bicycle located between them.

    To pass by this area, we need to follow the Auto Turret's spotlight to the right and jump onto the empty bicycle when you reach it. Use this until the spotlight heads back to the left at which point we can hop off and run to the right before it returns.

    Continue along the platform to the right. As you reach the far end, you'll see a Guard sitting in a chair and facing the screen. He is asleep but will be woken up if you touch the bucket on the railing in front of him. To get past this, you'll need to crouch walk (L2/LT) beneath it. At this point we have two options, jump to the right to continue with the level or drop down the gap to reach a secret area for an Achievement/Trophy.

    Note: If you decide to drop down the gap, continue to the right and down the slope. Again, crouch walk beneath the water jet and drop down to another room below. Keep moving to the right until you find a security room with another NPC. For finding this area you'll earn the Achievement/Trophy ‘Obscure Dissident'. You'll need to backtrack up to where we snuck by the Guard a moment ago and hop across the gap to the right to continue.

    After hopping across the gap to the right of the sleeping Guard, you'll come across a small vent-type area which we'll need to crouch walk through to proceed. Continue through this area until you find yourself back outside.

    Chapter 03

    Now that we are back outside, you'll see an automated turret in the background with its spotlight on the ground just in front of where we exited from the vent. A little further to the left are two sets of crates separated by an open area.

    To get past the turret, from the vent we'll need to sprint past the spotlight and stop behind the first set of crates in a crouching position. There is a concrete wall here that will prevent the turret from hitting you whilst crouch walking. Head to the far right of this wall and wait. After a short amount of time, the gun's barrel will start to turn orange and overheat. When it does, it will stop shooting for a short time, allowing you to quickly sprint to a second set of crates to the right.

    In this second set of crates, you'll find a wheel that we can interact with that will open up a flame vent over behind the first set of crates. Once this has been activated, again wait for the turret to overheat before running back to the left and crouching behind the concrete below where the first crates were located. Move to the left so that the turret follows you into the flames. Have it sit there for a few moments and it will be destroyed, allowing you to continue to the right.

    On the far right of this area, run into the wall to see the inactive turret (still following you) smash into a boarded-up wall above. Back up a little and again run into the wall to have the turret smash the barrier. Do this a few more times until the wooden blockage is removed. Jump up the platforms here to reach the entrance and continue inside.

    Chapter 04

    Upon reaching the next room to the right, you'll be on an upper walkway. Below you'll see a Guard on a middle platform using a Control Device to direct the worker NPC on the lower platform.

    Look for the sheet of white material hanging from the top platform. The section of the platform behind this is weak and jumping up and down on this a few times will have you fall through the floor. You'll want to do so and attempt to land on the Guard below. Doing so will kill him. At this point, you'll be given the Control Device.

    For murdering this Guard, at this point, the game will reward you with a new item - the Control Device.

    To exit the room, use the Control Device to target the worker NPC below and select him (R1/RB). Head to the far right and below the closed door here, you'll see a control panel on the lower level. Have the worker activate this to open the door. Move through to the next area.

    This room again features an upper level and a lower level with a worker NPC that we'll need to manipulate below. In the middle of the room is a vat of toxic death gas which we can't cross. At the top of the room is an Auto Turret which will cast its searchlight back and forth across the upper platform.

    Stand as close as you can to the entrance and bring the worker NPC to the platform below you. Direct him just to the left of the toxic gas area and leave him there.At this point (as long as you are not too close to him), the turret will lock onto the worker and direct him to the control panel on the far side of the toxic cloud. He'll interact with the panel and raise up a small, gas-proof tunnel that will not only block the turret's spotlight but will allow safe passage across the gas.

    Once you are inside the white tube, move to the right of it and wait until the turret's spotlight is to the left before exiting and crouch walking to the right (if you run or walk, you'll make noise and the turret will be alerted to your presence). When you reach the far wall, you'll see another control panel below.

    When the turret is looking away from the worker NPC, take control of him again and have him interact with the control panel below to open the door.

    Inside the door, there is an elevator platform with a glowing section above it. Aim at this with your Control Device to have the elevator rise upwards. Take it upwards until you can exit onto a walkway above.

    After leaving the lift, move to the right and you'll find a Guard in front of an alarm. Crouch walk by him and continue to move to the right (don't stop as the Guard will begin to follow you) until you come across a second Guard behind a chain link fence. Wait behind the wall in the shadows here for a short time and the Guard behind the fence will interact with the panel and open the door to the right. When it is safe to do so sneak over and through the door.

    Crouch walk as to not bother the Auto Turret on the roof and then use your Control Device on the elevator to take it down to the floor below. Exit and continue to the right.

    Chapter 05

    In the next room, you'll see a worker NPC on the platform below. Take control of him and continue through the next door on the right. In the next area, you'll see a pair of control panels below. Have the worker interact with the right-hand control panel first to move a video projector into position to the right and then get him to interact with the projector to activate it.

    With the video projector playing, the Guard below will eventually become distracted by it and move into a position where he can watch it. When he does, head to the end of the platform and crouch at the end to drop to the viewing room below. Crouch walk to the far end of the room to avoid alerting the Guard and at the far wall climb up to the ledge above.

    On the passage ahead, you'll see a series of four bicycles with an automatic turret overhead constantly focusing on each of these in order from one side of the platform to the other and back again. The first bicycle you come across is unused, but the subsequent four are manned by worker NPCs.

    When the searchlight moves to the right, take control of the worker NPC on the second bicycle and move him onto the first. Run to the second bicycle and interact with it to take the other NPC's place. Wait until the automatic turret's searchlight moves back past you to the left and then run to the end of the platform to the right.

    At the end of the platform is a section of seesaw-like floor which will tilt up to the left if you stand on the right-hand side. We'll need to enter the opening on the left when it does this. As such, we'll need to use the worker NPCs on the third and the fourth bicycles as weights, so wait for the turret to move to the left side of the platform and grab both NPCs and have them stand on the right side of the tilting platform.

    Once it lifts up, crouch walk and drop down into the opening that is created.

    Chapter 06

    Make your way to the right until you reach the room with two orange spinning heat vents on the lower level and a worker on a bicycle on the platform above. At the very top of the room is a conveyor transporting construction materials from left to right controlled by the bicycle. In this area, the floor is too thick to have the Control Device work through it, as such, you'll need to locate the holes in the platform and direct the control beam to reflect off the pipe at the top of the room and onto the worker NPC so that you can assume control.

    With control of the worker, wait until one of the pipes suspended from the conveyor at the top of the room is between the two large heating fans above the central platform. When it is there, quickly get the worker NPC leave the bicycle s that the conveyor halts and the hanging pipe is held in position. Have the worker move to the right and activate the first control panel to disable the first spinning vent on the lower platform. After passing by the first spinning vent, there is another small hole on the platform above, reflect your Control Device off the pipe we moved into place above and onto the second panel to deactivate the other spinning vent.

    Continue through the opening at the end of the platform.

    The tunnel immediately after leaving the previous room is very dark and there is a cliff with spikes in it at its centre. Wait for the lighting to flash on and off a few times so that you can get a rough idea of where it is before jumping down to the platform below and entering the open vent.

    Chapter 07

    After entering the ventilation duct, you'll find yourself on a large panel of metal that will work its way through a conveyor process wherein pieces of machinery will cut the platform we are standing on away, leaving it smaller and smaller. In addition to staying on the platform, we'll also need to avoid the machine-based obstacles as we move across it. To do so, perform the following movements:

    1. To begin with, stay as far as you can to the left of the platform until the crushers leave.
    2. Stand towards the middle-right of the platform so that you end up standing between the crusher and the circular saws.
    3. Return to the left-hand side of the platform to avoid the next set of circular saws.

    After the third round of platform cutting, the camera will display a pipe located above. As the moving platform approaches this, run time a jump so that you grab and climb up onto the pipe. From here we can again jump up onto a pipe further above.

    Follow the second pipe to the right and around a corner. Get a run-up and perform a jump from the end of the pipe to reach a second. Continue to the right and at the dead end, jump and climb up to the platform above.

    Chapter 08

    This next pipe will collapse as you step on it but will be slanted to start with, so you'll need to run and slide down this before jumping to the platform across the gap before the pipe drops into the abyss below.

    Once you are safely across, climb up and interact with the panel here before proceeding through the door it opens.

    Act II

    Chapter 09

    This room is quite dark and as such, you'll be unable to view the gap in the walkway below. Move slowly down the slope and as the game has our character turn a corner, there is a gap a short distance ahead. Move along the platform slowly so that the light on our back will be able to highlight it for you. Once you know where it is, jump across and climb up to the platform above.

    Climb the scaffolding here and continue along the catwalk until you need to jump across to a satellite dish. Do so and then from here jump to the next platform above. Proceed to the right and take the lift down to the next room.

    Whilst standing in the lift at its lowest location, use your Control Device to target the glowing switch by the door on the far wall. This will open it and then slam shut, dislodging a panel on the side of the elevator shaft above. Take the elevator back up again and this time, from the top jump through the new opening to reach a small walkway with a wheel that we can interact with.

    Interacting with the wheel will enable you to direct the laser beam attached to the console here. Direct the laser so that it hits the button on the far wall by the door to open it for good this time. Continue through to the next area.

    The next room has a crop of some sort in the background with a laser pointed at a button on the roof and a Guard in the foreground patrolling back and forth between a pair of consoles with an alarm between them. Wait until the Guard patrols to the right before dropping down to the floor and interacting with the glowing panel on the floor to open a trap-door. Drop down to the lower crawlspace. Note that the floor of the main platform on the right is a grating and thus the Guard will be able to see you below.

    Move to the right of the crawlspace and you'll find a control panel with the laser pointing to a button on the ceiling. Just past this is an orange object which we can interact with to open a second trap door beside it. To exit this room, wait for the Guard to be all the way to the left and then use the panel with the laser to target the button on the door. As soon as it hits the button, let go and retreat under the solid concrete floor to the left. The Guard will come over and stand above the laser panel. Wait for him to lose attention and he'll head to the alarm to turn it off – this will reset the room when deactivated so before he has the chance, quickly run to the right, hop out of the trapdoor to the main floor and run through the exit.

    After opening the door, stay just out of sight to the left of the panel to avoid the Guard's gaze before making a run to the doorway.

    Chapter 10

    As soon as you pass through the door you'll see a circular lit apparatus in the background lit up with red. There is a hidden area nearby that we can access for an Achievement/Trophy. Alternatively, you can keep moving to the right to continue.

    Note: To find this hidden area, look on the ground in front of the spinning circular machine on the back wall. There is a hard to spot trapdoor on the floor. Interact with this to open it and then drop down inside.

    Continue to the right and drop down past the steam vent when you see an opening. Keep moving through the doors to the left until you find a room with a group of NPCs watching television. At this point you'll earn the Achievement/Trophy ‘VCR vs Communism'. Backtrack to the room above and through the door to the right to continue.

    In the next room, you'll see a lift high up on the right-hand wall. Below it is a platform we can drop too and below this is a laser grid we can't get past moving up and down.

    Drop to the platform below the lift to find a control panel and a button on a wall. Interact with the left-hand panel to insert your Control Device into the machine, turning it into a laser device. Use the wheel beside this to direct the laser to the button on the wall to the left. This will open a small door, allowing you to reach a bicycle inside. Hop on the bicycle and use it to transport the pipe suspended from the top of the room all the way to the right.

    With the pipe in position, jump off the bicycle and retrieve your Control Device. Climb back up to the top of the room and use the Control Device to reflect off the pipe and to the downwards directional button on the elevator to send it downwards. Hop on when you can and ride it down the shaft. As you go down, you'll need to hop off to the small platform on the left to avoid the laser grid. Continue down the shaft until you reach the floor below.

    Once you reach the bottom, we'll be able to continue by heading to the right. Before we do that, however, there is another secret area here to the left.

    Note: From the bottom of the elevator shaft with the laser grid, we can head to the left and interact with the gate here to open it.

    Move to the right and interact with the panel inside to earn the Achievement/Trophy ‘Garage Days'.

    From the base of the elevator, continue to the right.

    Chapter 11

    After a bit of a hike, you'll reach a metal walkway with an automatic turret moving up and down across the platform.

    Wait for an opening and move past it. Interact with the panel here to raise up a bridge, allowing you to jump the gap on the right. Note that this bridge will collapse as you run across it, so be sure to run and jump at the last moment to reach the far ledge.

    Continue through the next door.

    Chapter 12

    In the next room, you'll need to insert your Control Device into the machine here and then use the wheel to direct the laser onto the switch on the wall to open it. We'll need to continue through to the next area without the Control Device.

    This room has a laser device pointed on the button on the roof above an upper platform and a pair of buttons mounted on the wall by both doors below. Jump up to the upper platform by using the central platform with a control panel and the pipes to the left of it as stepping stones.

    When you are on the platform with the laser, we'll need to interact with this and direct the laser down to hit the button on the wall by the door on the left (where we entered from). Note that as soon as you touch the control panel though, an alarm will sound and a laser grid will begin moving from left to right across the upper platform. To avoid this, we can run all the way to the right and jump up to a narrow ledge above. We can then either wait for the laser grid to head back in the other direction so that we can follow it and readjust the laser on the door, or if you have successfully done that, from the narrow ledge, run and jump over the laser and from the left side of the platform drop back down to the room below.

    Return back through the door to reach the previous room. Approach the machine here and retrieve your Control Device. Move back through to the door with the alarm.

    Wait for a few moments and the alarm will turn itself off and the laser will reposition itself to face the button on the roof. At this point, we'll need to head back up to the upper platform and repeat the same process that we did earlier but this time, direct the laser to the glowing button by the door on the right side of the room. Again, avoid the laser grid and drop down to the room below to continue through the now open door.

    As you enter the next room, note the giant laser grid on the roof and the laser on the floor. As soon as you run through the laser, you'll trigger the laser grid on the roof to start descending. We need to run into the left at the right end of the screen and use the Control Device to send it downwards to escape the laser grid.

    After one floor, the left will stop. At this point, we can either exit the lift and continue along the pipes to the right to continue, or alternatively take the elevator down a little further to check out a hidden area for an Achievement/Trophy.

    Note: To find the hidden area, you'll want to take the elevator all the way to the bottom and hop off to the right. Interact with the gate here to open it. Move past the gate and locate a stone wreath propped up against the back wall. On the floor, just to the right of this, hidden in amongst the debris is a trap door.

    Interact with this top open it and drop down inside. Upon reaching this area you'll earn the Achievement/Trophy ‘High Hopes'. Return to the elevator and take it back up to the floor above to continue.

    When you are ready to continue, head along the pipes to the right of the elevator. before proceeding through the door on the left to continue.

    Chapter 13

    After a short walk, you'll find yourself above a room with a large screen and a crowd below. Run and jump between the series of three hanging platforms here to reach the far side. Note that they will start to swing back and forth when you land on them so be sure to time your jumps properly to cross the room.

    Once you have successfully navigated across the screening room, approach the lift in the control room at the end and take it down to the next area.

    Chapter 14

    Continue to the right until you pass through a chain linked fence and reach a control panel. You'll need to insert your Control Device into the machine here and then use the wheel to direct the laser onto the switch on the wall to open it. We'll need to continue through to the next area without the Control Device.

    After moving through the door, jump down to the platform below and then drop to the floor. Continue to the right until you see a platform above and some pipes that we can jump to. From the top pipe, move to the right and you'll see a pair of platforms we can jump to. The upper platform leads to a dead end, so we'll need to jump to the lower one. Follow this platform to the end and jump across the gap. When you land, move to the left and you'll reach a platform with a control panel and a laser. Interact with this control panel to trigger a scene.

    Upon regaining control, you'll be back at ground level. Move to the left and you'll find an open trapdoor. Drop down here and interact with the nearby panel to activate a lift. Ride this down the slope to the bottom and when it stops, jump to the platform below.

    Continue into the next area.

    Chapter 15

    This next area is a little tricky as it is quite dark and the rounded edges on the pipes that we'll need to use as platforms will cause you to slide off if landed on. As such, you'll need to be very careful.

    From the start, jump down to the pipe below. There is a swinging pendulum type obstacle ahead which will kill you if it touches you, but the lights that it has mounted on it will assist you by revealing the platforms obscured by the darkness in the environment. Move forward and jump across the gap that the pendulum inhabits when it is safe to do so.

    Move cautiously through this area and use the pendulums to see the platforms.

    Move cautiously through this area and use the pendulums to see the platforms.

    From this ledge, jump down to the pipe below to avoid the curved end and continue to the right until you reach a dilapidated elevator shaft. Drop to the small platform below and then quickly run and jump across the shaft to the ledge opposite before the platform collapses. Slide down the slope and continue to the right.

    We'll need to progress through a series of pendulums in this area, so proceed with caution. Again, the area is quite dark and the lights on the pendulums will assist. The first pendulum swings back and forth atop a small ledge in between two larger platforms. The second pendulum is located near the end of the longer platform after the first pendulum. The platform across the gap from the second pendulum is a red herring! To proceed we need to hang from the edge of the platform below the second pendulum and drop down to a ledge below.

    Keep moving to the right and jump up to the metal ledge above. Quickly move to the right and onto the lip of the cylindrical concrete structure as this will collapse if you stand on it for too long. The camera will shift at this point allowing you to proceed around the ledge atop the cylinder.

    Chapter 16

    Follow the top of the cylinder to the right and hop the gap. Slide down the slope here and jump just before you reach the bottom to leap across to another platform. This smaller platform will disintegrate relatively quickly so upon landing, quickly hop up to the next ledge of a metal walkway located above.

    Upon reaching the metal walkway you'll be able to venture to the right or the left. The right-hand path leads back around on itself in a loop back to the start, so turn to the left instead and jump up to the walkway above. Continue to follow this up a series of subsequently higher platforms until you reach the top.

    As you move to the left here, you'll come across a dark area. Approach this slowly as near the top of the slope there is a gap that you won't be able to see unless the light on the next platform flickers on and off for a second. After crossing the gap, jump up to the ledge above and continue to the left.

    Drop down into the lower area and note the large crate on the floor. Keep moving past this and lights will come on and the left-hand wall will start moving in your direction. If you let it, it will crush you against the right-hand wall. Instead, return to the crate on the floor and as the crushing wall approaches, jump at it and pull yourself up on top. Ride it all the way to the right and then back to the left when it resets.

    When the crushing wall is in the left-hand location, the floor beside it will open allowing you to drop down inside.

    Slide down the ramp here and jump across the gap to the platform at the bottom. As you move to the right on the platform it will tilt and then collapse in the direction you were running, so be sure to get a run up as it does and jump to the next platform. Here, use the available pipes and ledges to climb up to the metal walkway above.

    As you move to the right here, you'll go past a projector wall of sorts. The shadow of a pillar will drop in front of you and a large saw will appear behind you. The pillar shadow is a trick – you can run right by it, but the saw, on the other hand, is not and it will kill you if you touch it. As such, run away from the saw blades and climb up onto the stone block at the end to escape certain death.

    Jump across the gap and continue to the right.

    Chapter 17

    At this point, you'll have to jump a series of gaps in the path below. Use the lights provided to locate the gaps and jump them. The final gap is not lit up and the light itself is (intentionally?) misleading, so look for the frayed metal edges of the platforms on either side of the gap to identify it. After crossing the gaps, you'll come across a furnace type area with a control panel.

    Upon interacting with the control panel here, the furnace will start moving in your direction and spewing out flames in front of it. We'll need to quickly run back the way we came and across the three gaps (the lighting will be a little different at this point, so be careful!) until we can climb up onto the upper ledge at the end. Wait for the furnace to hit the wall below before jumping down and on top of it and running across all the way back to the right.

    At the end of the furnace arm, climb to the ledge above and hop over the flames below. Continue to the right and you'll reach a cliff area with three narrow platforms in the middle of it. Either side of the central of the three platforms there is a pair of flame jets which will activate periodically. These will toast you if you touch them, but they will also, however, reveal the locations of the platforms.

    Manipulating this control panel will disable the flames and will trigger a shadow to move back and forth in the background. This is actually a platform located below the gaps that we just jumped across. Wait until the shadow of the platform is between one of the gaps and jump down said gap to land on the platform.

    Ride the moving platform all the way right and then hop on down to the platform below. Here we can interact with the fence to open it before proceeding into the next area.

    As soon as you are through the fence, you'll see a steam vent in front of you. We'll need to watch its pattern and then walk past it when it is safe to do so. Additionally, you'll want to learn the sound that it makes – there are an additional three steam vents in the passage ahead and unfortunately, the next section of the area will take place in complete darkness and you will be unable to see at all.

    To get past them, move slowly to the right (don't worry there are no gaps in the floor) until you hear a vent noise. Listen to its pattern and move closer to it so that the vent is as loud as it gets before sprinting past it when there is a break in its pattern. You'll need to repeat this process three times before you reach a lit area at the end of the tunnel.

    Note: At this point, you'll earn the Achievement/Trophy ‘Step into the Light'.

    Act III

    Chapter 18

    Now that we are outside, proceed to the right and hop across the water when you reach it. On the far side, you'll arrive at a silo. Stand still here for a moment – there is a patrolling security mech that will pass by the road at the right side of the silo and if you make too much noise, it will turn and destroy you. As such, hang out here and wait for it to patrol up the road and into the distance before crossing the road and climbing the slope beyond it.

    At the top of the hill is a dilapidated building. If you continue past it, you'll find a large body of water with a raft floating by the water's edge. It is tied up however, so jumping onto this will do you no good. To break the rope, you'll need to return to the left-hand side of the house and look for an awning we can jump up on. From here, with a few additional jumps we can reach the roof.

    Once on the roof, head to the right and slide down the side of the roof so that you land on the raft. The shock of the fall should break the rope and send the raft across the water to the right. Unfortunately, this will lead you straight into a steam vent, so be sure to jump up on top of the platform above this as you approach to avoid a checkpoint reset. Drop down onto the raft once it has passed the vent and then leap across to continue onto the solid ground behind it.

    Keep moving to the right, passed a caravan and again, hop across the water. This time around, you'll need to use the barrels as stepping stones to do so and these have a tendency to sink pretty quickly once you step on them. As such, you'll want to keep moving and jumping until you reach the shore on the far side of the water.

    On the far side of the lake, you'll encounter a wooden fence in your path. Before climbing this, look into the background to see a security mech facing in your direction. Wait until it walks off before climbing over the fence.

    Move to the right to find a pair of panels, one with a Control Device we can pilfer and the second with a laser. Beside them is another glowing button by a body of water.

    Reposition the laser so that it is targeting the glowing button. This will trigger a boat to slowly approach your location from the opposite side of the lake. Once it does arrive, grab the Control Device from the console to the left of the laser and hop aboard the ship.

    At the rear of the ship itself, is a glowing button that we can manipulate using the Control Device. On the main deck, there is a set of two bars with hanging bodies. The one closer to the back of the ship has three bodies whilst the other has four. As we cross the lake, using the Control Device to have the ship move, we'll bump into a series of Auto Turrets with searchlights. Each time we arrive at one of these, we need to have the ship moving fast enough so that it will drift without power for a short time past the turret and whilst it is doing so you'll need to run over and hang from the bar with three dead bodies on it as the searchlight passes over you to escape its gaze.

    After manoeuvring around four of these Auto Turrets on the lake, you'll (finally!) reach a dock where we can hop off the boat. Mosey onwards to the right to continue.

    Chapter 19

    After crossing the lake using the barge, head to the right. You'll come across a pair of hanging cages and a cherry picker.

    On the side of the cherry picker is a control panel that we can interact with which will drop the bottom out form the cages. One of these contains a small dog-like Robot, head back to the left to find and interact with this.

    After doing so, the Robot will become active and you'll have earned yourself a new side-kick. We can control the Robot as we would the worker NPCs earlier by using the Control Device.

    Make your way to the right and direct the Robot to the chain link gate blocking the road. Approach and interact with the Robot and it will become stationary, allowing you to stand on top of it. From the top of the Robot you can jump up to the top of the fence and climb over to the other side. Interact with the panel here to open the gate and head back through to interact with the Robot once again so that it will start following you once more.

    Continue to the right. Make your way across the long narrow pipe when you reach it and interact with the panel at the far side to flip it on its side to make it larger. This will allow the Robot to cross as well.

    On the far side of the pipe bridge, there is a crane truck with its ignition on. The arm of the crane is attached to a stack of pallets on the right. Have the Robot interact with the glowing blue power box atop the pallets to have the stack lower sufficiently for you to climb up on top of it. Jump down on the far side.

    Chapter 20

    Hop across the next gap and you'll find yourself below another crane. At the right-hand side of this platform, there is a pair of loads suspended from the crane arm. Having the Robot jump onto the blue electrical panel here will raise the first load, but lower the second one. Having the Robot drop off this will have the loads reset with the first load lifting up once again and the second lowering.

    To solve this area, you need to have the Robot jump onto the blue panel so that the first load rises up. Stand below the first load and target the ground below the Robot to have it jump off the electrical box. As it does, quickly run and jump down to the pipe above the water just next to the second load. Continue to the right and across the rubbish barge to have the Robot rejoin you.

    At the end of this next platform is another crane-arm style construction with a yellow object dangling from the end of it. Have the Robot interact with the electrical box on the yellow object here and then when it starts moving, run and jump so that you hang from the back of the Robot. Ride the crane arm ‘lift' all the way to the top.

    When the lift comes to a stop, drop and slide down the slope to reach the ground below. Shortly after landing, a crushing element will lower from the roof and fill the entire gap. To survive this, interact with the Robot to have it turn into a block and crouch beside it so that the crushing device hits the Robot before retreating.

    Once the crushing section has completed, the pit will begin to fill with water. Jump on top of the Robot (still in block form) and jump up to one of the small hatches that have opened in the pit walls. From here we should be able to jump and climb out of the pit via the ledges on the right.

    Chapter 21

    Make your way to the right and you'll find yourself at a cliff with a steam vent below. Above, is a conveyor with clamps hanging from it carrying boxes from the factory in the background and across the cliff to the right.

    To cross the gap, we'll need to jump onto one of these crates. Before we do this, however, we can earn an Achievement/Trophy at this point.

    Note: To earn a hard-to-find Achievement/Trophy here, we'll need to stay here for a few minutes. Note that the boxes that are being transported along the conveyor are green with brown edges. We need to wait until the game spits out a crate that has red edges. As it nears the cliff, have the Robot jump interact with this.

    This will trigger a scene, after which you'll earn the Achievement/Trophy ‘Fez'.

    To proceed, run and jump onto one of the green crates and ride it to the right. After a fairly long ride, during which you'll see a Guard take control of your Robot, you'll eventually enter a building and end up crashing through a window to find yourself back on the ground once more.

    Upon landing, you'll see a yellow shipping container moving up and down periodically just to the left. We want to jump onto the railing on the right-hand side of this container to break the pipe below it and have the container stop at its high point. This will cause the Guard nearby to walk over to fix the pipe. As he approaches, climb up on top of the crate and use your Control Device to target the Robot. Once the Guard starts his repairs have the Robot jump up on top of the crate with you to crush the Guard below.

    With the Robot back on your side, head to the right and have it interact with the blue electrical box on the structure ahead. Once it is in position, jump onto the Robots back and then over the structure. Continue to the right.

    Chapter 22

    After a bit of a walk, you'll go past a dump truck, an open boom gate and a small depot of sorts before arriving at yet another canal. Jump across to the first wooden platform and note the steam vent at the far end. Use the Control Device to send the Robot up and have it stand just in front of the vent to block the gas so that you can move past it. Repeat this process for the next three steam vents as you hop across the available platforms to reach the bank on the far side.

    Continue along the set path and use the barrel as a small stepping stone to reach the far side of the next section of water. Move to the right until you see a large cylindrical object and stand behind this. In the background, you should see a patrolling security mech facing in your direction.

    We'll need to distract this to continue. To do so send your Robot over to the right and the mech will shoot at it. This will also spook nearby birds which will distract the mech and turn it around briefly, allowing you to run a short distance up the path. You'll want to stop behind the tall section of grass at the top of the first slope. From here, send the Robot onto the blue sheet of metal on the ground and then run to the left-hand side of the sheet of metal whilst the mech is distracted.

    From here, you'll want to stand on the far, left side of the large green sheet of metal and send the Robot back in the direction you came. When the mech is busy, run across the sheet of metal and through the water until you are behind another large cylindrical object similar to the one we used as cover at the start of the area. Once you are here, you should be able to move onwards and to the right away from the mech without being spotted.

    Once you have escaped the mech, jump across the empty canal and climb the slope to reach a train track. Before pressing onwards, we can grab a quick Achievement/Trophy at this location.

    Note: to find a secret Achievement/Trophy, you'll want to stand on the right-hand side of the tracks, facing them. Wait for the train to come by (they will come frequently) and interact with the ladder on the back of the last carriage as it goes by.
