"Should please anyone who's looking for a great online multiplayer shooter."

The Conduit is High Voltage Software's attempt to bring the success of Halo and countless other online shooters to the Wii. HVS has never been known for making quality games, but they somehow managed to make The Conduit one of the more anticipated games to be released for the Wii. Does it live up to the hype?

Throughout the single player campaign, you play as Michael Ford, an agent working for an organization called the Trust. A new alien threat, called the Drudge, has invaded Washington DC, and it is up to you to stop them. It sounds like a Halo ripoff, but the story gets a little more complicated than that.

Gameplay is your standard FPS affair. Get to the end of the level, killing anything that gets in your way, and occasionally take care of a mission objective. The Conduit attempts to add some variety by introducing the All Seeing Eye, or the ASE. It is an artifact that allows you to scan the area and find hidden switches, hack terminals, and identify invisible threats. The ASE does cause some pacing problems, as you will be forced to run around looking for hidden switches in the area, which is quite tedious.

The controls are what set The Conduit apart from most standard first person shooters. You point at the screen to aim and turn, and shake the remote and nunchuk to use melee attacks and throw grenades. The controls are completely customizable, allowing you to remap almost any function onto another button or motion. For example, shaking the remote to melee throws off my aim, so I remapped it to the + button, which was originally the ASE, but is never used in multiplayer matches. In addition, you can set deadzones and change camera styles to your liking.

The single player missions can be finished in a day, but the multiplayer is where it's at. Over ten modes are available to play on Nintendo Wi-Fi connection with friends or random strangers. Multiplayer matches are generally a lot of fun and relatively lagless. The Conduit even includes support for WiiSpeak, but only with friends. This is the definitive online first person shooter currently available for the Wii, beating Call of Duty: World at War and Medal of Honor Heroes 2.

Graphics are solid, on par with Halo 2, if not better. The audio is serviceable, lacking memorable tracks, but features some great voice acting.

The main problem with The Conduit is the single player. It's very short and has a rather generic feel. The campaign does include achievements and multiple difficulties, but once you beat it, you probably won't feel like going through it again.

Overall, Wii owners can finally rejoice as an excellent multiplayer shooter has finally arrived. Anyone who does not own a 360/PS3 and is looking for a Halo-esque game for Wii, here it is. However, if for some reason you do not have Wi-Fi, drop the score by three points.
