"Nintendo brings us another amazing 2D Mario."

New Super Mario Bros. Wii is the first 2D Mario on a home console in 18 years, and it certainly doesn't dissapoint! With classic Mario style gameplay and the nifty Multiplayer feature makes for a 2D Mario for the ages. It does have some slight misconceptions to it though.

This is of course the best part of the game, you can tackle the levels single player or have up to 3 friends play with you! Each World consist of roughly 6 levels with a fortress and castle level, as well as airship levels brought back from Super Mario Bros. 3. This game brings back classic Mario powerups such as mushrooms, fire flowers, stars etc. As well as new powerups, the penguin suit and the propeller suit. It even bri ngs back Yoshi! But it's kinda sad that Yoshi only makes an appearance in 6 (out of 77 levels), even if he DOES make the game easier. The only downside to the core gameplay is that it's too much like the DS version, New Super Mario Bros. All World themes are the sames, some backgrounds are the same, Star Coins are back, some of the same soundtracks, Mario has the same animations, and some of the actual platforming segments are roughly based off the DS version, it's sad that Nintendo can't think of all completely new level designs.

Bowser Jr. and Koopalings (Yes, they're back from Super Mario World! ^_^) capture Peach and Mario must venture through 8 Worlds to save her! Yeah, nothing new, but it's the best story we can get from a 2D mario.

The Visuals in this game are definitely an upgrade from the DS version, and look fantastic. The music/sound isn't half bad either, it has themes from classic games, as well as new themes. There's really nothing bad in this factor.

Play Time/Replayability:
This game is short and can easily be beaten in 6 hours, though I would like more worlds/levels than this game has, 2D Mario's are supposed to be short because you can replay your favorite levels whenever you get the urge, or you could start a new file, speedruns, item runs, super skills, infinte 1ups. The possibillites are endless, not to mention the multiplayer, which just adds even more replay value. But even so, this game is pretty generous with the length thanks to star coins/secret exits. If you loved to replay levels in SMB3/SMW, you definitely love doing it in this game too! ^_^

Final Recomendation:
Look, if you have a Wii, just get this game, it's an amazing, nostalgic 2D Mario for the ages. Even if it does indeed have its flaws.
