"An Amazing Game, Worthy of the Mario Name"

New Super Mario Bros. Wii came out last year being a sequel to New Super Mario Bros for the DS. It brought something new (no pun intended) to the mainstream Mario games, 4 player co-op. A lot of people were apprehensive about this at first, but it turned out great. This game manages to add a lot of new elements yet still retain that classic Mario feel. It can proudly stand aside such classics such as Super Mario Bros and Super Mario World.

Gameplay: 10/10

The gameplay is smoother than ever before, with momentum working with you. Mario may seem a bit heavy at first, but you'll get used to it after a level or two. All of the new power-ups work great and fit in just right, although there weren't too many new ones this time around. The Penguin suit is a little hard to control when you're sliding, but that's kinda the point. For the first time since Super Mario World Yoshi is a power-up. He works just like he did back then, but now he can eat hammers and fireballs and spit them out. He's also able to eat other players, either to save them from danger or just to tick them off by spitting them off a cliff. More on multiplayer farther down. This game plays like most other Mario games, if you get hit, you get smaller/lose your power-up. If you get hit when you're small or fall in a pit/lava/poison you die, and get exited from the level. You can replay the level again from your last checkpoint. New to this game is the Green Block. If you die eight times on a level a green block appears, and if you hit it Luigi will play the level for you.

Story: N/A

This is a Mario game. Don't expect some deep story that takes three disks to get through (see Final Fantasy VII if you want that kind of thing.) The game starts with Princess Peach's birthday, and then Bowser Jr. kidnaps her. That's about it until the end of the game.

Music: 9/10

The music sounds a lot like the classics, with new touches. The enemies even dance to the music in the levels. There are remixes of the underground theme and a bunch others, but I won't give them away. You will enjoy this music, I guarantee it.

Mutiplayer: 9.8/10

The multiplayer is exactly what it was supposed to be, co-operative if you want to be, but you can screw your friends up just for the heck of it. Pretty much everything you do can be good or bad. You can pick someone up to help them through hard parts, or throw them of the edge to kill them. You can bounce on your partner's head to get an extra boost, or to push them down while they're crossing a gap. Whenever your partner dies, they come back in a bubble, as long as they have lives left. You can choose to pop them (the only way to get them out) or you can let them suffer in there. Players can press the A button at any time to get in a bubble, but if everyone gets in bubbles or all players die, you will be exited out of the level.

That's all you need to know about New Super Mario Bros Wii. Like I said, it's a great game and a must have for any Wii owner.
