"A great addition to the Star Wars universe"
Star Wars Battlefront is an awesome addition to the list of Star Wars games, which have a general reputation of being bad. It's basically a 3rd person shooter that is primarily meant to be enjoyed as a multiplayer experience. That's not to say single player isn't good however. if you want an overview of the main review below, it's basically a very fun game, and even more so if you are a Star Wars fan.
The graphics in general are wonderful. The particle effects, particularly explosions, are amazingly beautiful. The sight of lasers going everywhere in some of the more confined maps is stunning. The character models themselves look realistic, with good animations, and nice attention to detail. The vehicles look equally well done, and really represent the vehicles in the movies well. The environments themselves are gorgeous, particularly the larger environments. The frame rate doesn't drop, even when there is a real lot happening. There are some very minor technical glitches, such as the Snow Speeders tow cable occasionally going through objects, but aside from that, the graphics are wonderful.
The gameplay itself is exhilarating. Some of the things that are possible in SW: Battlefront that allude to the movies are great, and there are some things that you wouldn't expect to happen. Because of the size of the maps there is a large number of ways to kill enemies in any given situation, and because all you do in this game is kill enemies, that is a very good thing. The sheer number of usable vehicles is amazing, and the fact that they all control very well is good, too. The somewhat varied characters also control well, which is good. Although in each mode you do the exact same thing, it doesn't really matter because doing that thing is so fun. All you do take over control points and attempt to defeat the opposing army. There is always a large number of people on the battlefield at one time, normally around 30. This leads to the AI. The AI is very good most of the time. They will even attempt to gang up on people. They use vehicles fairly well, and have good accuracy. The AI occasionally gets bad however. This doesn't happen often at all, at least not enough to lower the gameplay's grade.
The music is entirely composed of classic Star Wars music, which is a good thing. The music's quality is good, and if you liked the music from the movies, you'll like the music for the game. There really isn't much to say here expect that the music rocks.
The sound is completely accurate to Star Wars. The lasers and vehicles all sound like they were taken straight from the movie and put in the game. This is a good thing, I assure you. The voice overs are good, as is the rest of the sound.
The ONLY reason this game gets an 8/10 in story is because it sticks to the Star Wars roots. If you know the movies, you will get a lot of story, even though there are probably only 200 words said in cut scenes. If you don't know the movies too well, or haven't seen them at all, don't expect to see too much story related stuff. Basically, if you've seen the movies, you'll know what's going on, and if you haven't then the story is nothing.
Replay Value: 8/10
The game is repetitive, yes. However, regardless of that fact, the game is extremely fun. If you don't have XBox LIVE then the replay value isn't quite as high, but if you do, then you could play this for a long time.
As you can probably tell, I love this game. Star Wars: Battlefront is great. Go buy it right now. Otherwise, a bunch of Ewoks are going to smash your head between 2 trees!
