"A great console... Er, it could've been without the piss-poor internal design"
The Xbox 360, released in 2005, is a good game console with a lot of outstanding games. However, it's far from perfect due to a number of nasty design flaws that plague every owner out there. So, without further ado, let's see what the 360's got.
The Xbox 360 is a very capable console in terms of graphical power, and it shows with some great looking games like Gears of War, Forza Motorsport 3, Grand Theft Auto 4, and lots of other great looking games. But there are some odd graphical flaws in a lot of games like blocky, pixelated shadows; pop-up; physics-related bugs; and some other problems.
The 360's external design is fine, smooth interface, decent console design, y'know. BUT, the internal design is the 360's most glaring flaw. Back in 2005, Microsoft decided to rush out the Xbox 360 as soon as possible, the result of this came a lot of hardware flaws, like a poorly designed disc tray that can scratch up your games, and even worse than that, the console has poor soldering, meaning that it can overheat and get a so-called "Red Ring of Death" indicating a hardware failure. This can happen to ANY console whether or not you play it for long periods of time. On the bright side, the Xbox 360 isn't too hard to fix since it has three year warranty, but then again, who wants to have to fix their console once or twice a year? The 360's internal design is just no good.
The Xbox 360's controller is nearly perfect, and it's got a great ergonomic feel, but it too has a major flaw... the D-pad. The Xbox 360 controller's D-pad is just awful. It's slippery, it's awkward, and it makes special moves in fighting games very hard to perform. A good controller, but you'll probably want to do something about that D-pad, like modding it.
The Xbox 360's got an abundance of great games. 1st party or 3rd party, exclusive or not exclusive, you can't go wrong with the Xbox 360's games.
Xbox Live is very good and very intuitive, but there are also a lot of annoying problems with it. When you play online, you'll find that there's a lot of racists, swearers, drunk people, hapless noobs, griefers, and most of all, annoying little kids. It's easy to ignore this problem, however, you can't ignore the fact that you'll have to buy an expensive peripheral to connect your 360 to a wireless internet connection, which is an inexcusable pain in the ass. And you also gotta pay $60 a year for it, which isn't much but come on! Playstation Network is basically the same and it's completely free! But I gotta admit, Xbox live is waaay better than "cough" Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
The Xbox 360 is a good game console with terrific games, a solid controller, and some great graphics, although the flawed online, overpriced peripherals, and awful internal hardware design keep it from coming out on top.
