"College Hoops is easily the best basketball game out for XBOX 360."

Intro: College Hoops 2K7 is definitely the best basketball game that is out for the XBOX 360 console currently. It's a ton better than March Madness 2007, much like how EA has been failing to make a good sports for the XBOX 360. College Hoops brings what many basketball games do not to the table: Realistic game play and scoring. While the AI isn't absolutely perfect, this is the most realistic basketball game I have ever played and the scoring is also realistic.

Game play: The actual game play as I said before is outstanding compared to most other basketball games. The scoring is realistic, as well as the shots that are taken. Remember, this is college basketball, not professional, so if you are attempting a lay-up with three people defending you it is not always going to go in. The AI is pretty good, but it has its flaws. It often fails to get back and play defense after it scores a basket, so it is very easy to score on a fast break. The AI also can play not the greatest defense, making it easier to score. Otherwise, the defense does what it has to: Misses baskets when it is covered, and makes them in when it isn't.

Now when you control your player, it feels very realistic. When you are bobbling the ball or hitting the floor for a turnover, the game physics become very realistic. When you try to inbound the ball to a player on the other side of the court who is well covered, they won't magically get the ball. Also dunks don't happen too often on this game, which is very realistic, instead of slam-dunking it over someone who is a foot taller than your player. Finally, the team unity. I enjoy it a lot because in college basketball it is more about the team than the individual player. The team unity makes it so that if you have a bad team unity, you are more likely to turn the ball over or not have a player in the right spot. If you have a good team unity, everything will be smoother with a better team effort, such as switching up on defense when someone becomes open on offense.
Game play: 8/10

Graphics: As with all of the next generation games, the graphics are expected to be superb. Well the graphics for College Hoops 2K7 are pretty solid overall. The close up shots of the players are absolutely amazing, the muscle definition and sweat is something to behold. Otherwise the graphics are good, only good. They get the job done, but aren't anything to be in total awe about for a next generation game. Personally, graphics aren't a complete necessity to a game as long as they aren't horrible, which College Hoops is far from.
Graphics: 7/10

Sound: The main difference between college basketball and professional is the noise that college fans will make. College Hoops portrays it very well, as you can tell when you are in an arena full of intense fans or in a smaller arena playing a poor team. The sound on court is solid, nothing to rave or complain about. The same goes for the commentators. You don't really notice them, which means they did their job and don't say anything stupid. The music for the game isn't the greatest, but you'll be so busy playing games it won't matter.
Sound: 7/10

Out of game stuff This is one of the reasons why I enjoy the 2K franchise currently over the EA. For a brand new game, you would think that there would be a ton of stuff to do outside of the game. College Hoops 2K7 has plenty of things to do outside of the game. You can create a school, a player, recruit players, read your email, simulate through a legacy (college version of franchise), and obviously play online. College Hoops even offers something new, a chant creator. While there is room for improvement for it, it was very well done for the first time. There is plenty to do outside of the game to enjoy, which 2K usually seems to master.
Out of game stuff: 9/10

Conclusion: Overall, College Hoops 2K7 offers a great game experience as well as plenty to do outside of playing a game. The technical aspect of it is solid, not breakthrough, but more than good enough to enjoy. Overall, College Hoops 2K7 is the best basketball game out for a next generation console.
Overall: 8/10
