"Not since the days of Mad Max has an apocalyptic wasteland been so much fun"

Fallout 3 is one of the most anticipated titles of the year, and rightly so. This game is from Bethesda the makers of Elder Scroll IV: Oblivion. With such a predecessor expectations were high am I'm happy to say have been met in glorious fashion. You're going to read a lot of reports that tell you this game is simply Oblivion with guns and that is pretty much the case. However you need to decide if that is good or bad.

The game takes place in the year 2477 after the great war and you are a survivor from one of the great vaults courtesy of the Vault-Tec corporation. You'll go through a tutorial of sorts in the vault and once you bid your childhood home goodbye you'll emerge into world seemingly devoid of life. Nothing could be further from the truth for the desolate wasteland is home to a number nightmarish creatures.

Like any RPG there is plenty to see and do. You have a main quest that your character must complete in order to finish the game, but there are also a number of side quests that you can do and how you proceed is your choice. As you encounter various people and situations you will be faced with moral dilemma. Do you choose the high road and and exhibit the kind of actions that show humanity is worth a second chance or do you succumb to temptations of the flesh and show everyone that the world now matches humanities true nature?

Graphically the game is beautiful, it is visually a step above Oblivion. The control scheme is very easy to use and responds very well to your commands. There are a couple blemishes on the game but they are so minor that it really doesn't take anything away from the game. When playing in third person mode your character seems to glide across the ground rather than walk, but since this game is really meant to be played in 1st person it is almost a non-issue. There is also a minor glitch where some of the NPC's actually die from being dropped into the game. I know that sounds weird but it could potentially cause some real problems if it happened to someone important at an in opportune time. I'm really hoping Bethesda patches this in the future.

If you you have an adventurous spirit and love a game that will suck you in to its world for days at a time Fallout 3 is what you are looking for. With so many interesting characters, weapons and quests its sure to have you wandering the wasteland for a long long time. I highly recommend this game for anyone who likes games, it's definitely one of this years must haves.
