This unique action/rpg is one of the best experiences of this generation

Dead Island is an incredible game, it's as simple as that. Part Borderlands, part Breakdown (Xbox), this game combines a co-op action rpg with lots of loot with the visceral hand-to-hand combat that made Breakdown so unique.

This game is not for the casual shooter fan. It's for people who like rpgs and their games a little on the hard side. If you plan on picking up a machine gun and just mowing down hordes of zombies, this game is not for you. However, if running for your life from a pack of zombies after breaking your last weapon and being quickly overwhelmed because you didn't check that corner sounds fun, then this game is perfect.

Every encounter is a life or death situation. You have to keep your weapons and supplies in check. Don't rush out blindly. Make a plan for every action.

There are the typical rpg hub areas where you can repair and store your stuff, accept side quests, buy new things, etc, etc. There is a nice quest logging system, so you can keep track of what you're supposed to be doing, as well as put markers on your map so you know where to go.

There are a few fast travel locations, so you can quickly move from one side of the game to the other, but you have to have visited that place already.

There is 'colored' loot, like any good action RPG, to keep you playing. There might not be as much variety as Borderlands, but there's still enough to keep loot collectors busy for a long time.

If you've played any standard action/rpgs (like Diablo, Borderlands, Torchlight, Dungeon Siege, etc, etc), you'll know what to expect and be able to jump right in. It's really the combat and difficulty that makes this game unique. If you get into it, this game is nearly perfect.

I have heard that people have some problems connecting to other people on Xbox Live, having their character corrupted, and other various glitches, but I haven't run into any of these. If you want to play with a friend, just invite them to your game, that seems to work all of the time.

If playing single player, this game is very intense. Every second could be your last. Every moan, growl, and scream sets you on edge.

If playing co-op, stick together. It might be tempting to split up to finish different sidequests, but if you get swarmed, it's nice to know you have a friend or three right there to help you out.

If you think the game is too easy, wait until you get to Act II, that's when stuff gets REAL.

If you want a hardcore zombie action/rpg adventure, whether you play it by yourself or with friends, this is for you. It takes the good aspects from several other games, but combines them in a way that creates an entirely unique experience.
