"Been there, done that. But..."

Introduction -World War 2. The most violent conflict of human history. Also the most over done game genre ever. Why do game developers feel the need to redo this genre every time? What is so special about it? How many times can we kill the Germans? But, it also takes place in the Pacific. Taking out the Japanese as well. That is rarely seen is World War 2 games.

Gameplay -10/10

It plays well. The controls are simple and easy to use, and are mostly used in other games. Right trigger to shoot, A button to jump, B to crouch etc. Oh and the gore. It is absolutely amazing. Watching your fallen foe grabbing at his missing arm or leg. It will provide for some funny moments. The controls are nice and tight. You also get a nice variety of weapons. From the German MP40 to the Japanese Numba pistol. You also get your standard knives, bayonets, grenades, and smoke grenades. Though, there are few maps for online play. There are several modes to online play, which are found in other games, such as capture the flag, team death match, all of which should be familiar and fun to play. If you don't have online, then you can play in Split-screen to, although that seems to be going away in games like these.

story - 5.5/10

What hasn't been done before? How many more twists can the World War 2 genre take? German Zombies? I think that has been done before. Well, you play as a Private on the Russian and American fronts. With the Russians pushing back the Germans and the Americans struggling in the Pacific. You will get some shock and awe moments but nothing really bedazzling. Although, there are some moments where you feel for the characters towards the end of the game. The story manages to suck you in halfway through. Always wondering what will happen to your brothers in arms.

Graphics/Sound - 9/10

If you can imagine hearing the rain dropping on the leaves in real life, that's what is sounds like in the game. Your boots trudging through the mud and wet sand, you can hear it. The bullets whizzing over your head will make you feel like you are in a war, with your fellow army mates screaming. The explosions are wonderful and well done. The weapon sound sounds authentic. It makes you feel like you are actually firing a M1 Garand. Very solid sound.

Playtime/Replay ability-6.5/10

After you are done, you might not pick it up again. I mean, how many German and Japanese soldiers can you kill? How many times can you listen to the screams of charging Japanese soldiers? Very little. I admit though, that if you have online, you will be playing for a long time. If you can stand the whiny kids. But the lack of maps and games modes might not make you want to play for often.

Final recommendation-Buy

World War 2 may be a rehashed genre, but this game seems to breath new life into it. If you are a fan of the Call of Duty series, buy it. If you are new to shooters, buy it. If you like FPS's in general, buy it. This game is good, not great, but good. The Call of Duty series has always been good at sucking you into its games, and this one is no different.
