"One CD down still two to go."

So this game is nothing like those who know the Franchise oh so well would ever expect. Items have to be upgraded instead of found or purchased. The game offers little in the way of open world. And the fight system is new...

Why change a winning strategy? What was wrong with turn based attacking? And why the linear path?

I don't have the answers just the questions... SE sure crapped on the style that built their franchise to popularity. Honestly if they wanted to try something new they should have called it something new not Final Fantasy XIII.

But for what the game is... (A interactive movie) it's pretty great. Sure the first disc only offers 10 hours of play/movie and doesn't ask you to switch on a high note. I mean would it be so hard to make a video game where switching to the next disc makes you want to do it to see what's about to happen? Cliffhanger would have been a nice touch.

Other reasons for calling it an interactive movie? Run, run, run, enemy/battle, run, run, run, enemy/battle, etc... Add a cut scene every say 5 to 6 fights. And you essentially have your game. The Leveling up system is strange but likable. Just wish it gave you more satisfaction. The armor/weapons having to be upgraded and only being able to upgrade so little at a time is a bit lame.

The game falls quite heavily on it's story and really let the wind out of its sails. The great side of that is the voice acting is amazing and the cut scene designs is equally so. Creepy factor the kids in this only look like kids when they're near the adults otherwise they look quite dashing, flashy, and hot. Seems like the target age of the characters is supposed to be 19 to 25 years of age although feels more like late twenties and late teens.

I honestly think this game would have been better if the whole opening disc was purely a DVD and the game play didn't start til 3 hours of awesome movie later.

That pretty much sums up this game on a whole. We can only hope they return to form at some point... This game and GTA IV need to stop changing things that don't need to be changed. You had a 9 out of 10 game setup and then you messed with the set up. Put the fun things back in give the fans what they expect not what you think they should want.
