  1. It takes place durring the Fall of Reach, like Killswitch-monk said, however; MCPO S-117 is still on the planet durring specific segments of the campaign. It was even hinted at in a Bungie Weekly Update that Noble Team might run into him, as well as several other characters from the other games (Buck from ODST, SGT. A. J. Johnson from Halo:CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, and Halo 3: ODST, as well as others).

For more information about this specific area in the Halo timeline, read the book "The Fall of Reach" by Eric Nylund.

  4. Reach takes place just before Halo: Combat Evolved (Halo 1). So around about late August to early September 2552. Master Chief is in cyro sleep in the Pillar of Autumn whilst Noble Team are fighting on Reach.
Like ReconScout412 said, you can read the novels, starting off with "The Fall of Reach" as it goes into more detail about the whole Halo storyline.

  5. Halo 1 takes place just a few hours after the end of reach, if you listen, cortana and keys talk about making a blind jump to get the covenant to follow them away from earth, this jump happened right after reach fell
