Could it be better? Yes. Is it terrible? Not at all.

Well, Halo: Reach is finally out. Was it worth the wait? Let's find out together, shall we?

The graphics are good, but nothing to write home about. The textures look good, but the particle effects are fantastic. Tons of stuff going on on the screen during battles. The environments are stunning and varied, ranging from farmland valleys to a city in ruin to orbit around the planet. The character design is also stunning, mostly in the slight redesign of the Covenant. Now they all look like a terrifying threat, even the Grunts. The only real problem with the graphic is the amount of motion blur. It's a bit too much.

Oh my goodness gosh, it sounds amazing. The score is fantastic, as is the usual for a Halo game. The weapons sound simply marvelous, with each one distinct and recognizable, and the explosions sound devastatingly glorious. The voice acting is a bit of a drag, it's not terrible by any stretch, but it's not great.

At it's core, the gameplay feels like Halo. That's a very good thing. The enemy AI is great, and on Legendary, provides a great challenge. I just wish the friendly AI could be as good, or even remotely good. Often times they'll shoot dead corpses rather than the 15 million other Covenant forces trying to turn you into Spartan dust, and Heaven forbid you let them drive.

This is wear Halo really shines. The multiplayer. The main reason I and so many others bought the game in the first place. And for the most part, it's well worth it. All the weapons are balanced for the most part, a few tweaks here or there is all that's needed. The armor abilities all work well and have their uses, none really stand above the others. The only major flaws of the multiplayer are the playlists and sadly, the maps. Why doesn't SWAT have it's own playlist? What about Team Snipers? As for the maps, a couple are really, really good, a couple are decent, but most just fall flat or are downright unpleasant to play on.

Final thoughts:

It's really just another Halo game, which if you're a fan of the series, isn't a bad thing at all. It wouldn't be a bad idea to wait a little bit until the playlists are set up to get it if you haven't already.

Rating:   3.5 - Good
